Who makes good 5/16 bits, and any good sets out there? Mainly hex and torx, but others also.

Zypher and snap on are my main choices. Zypher for self warranty, SO, if you have a truck. I use the hell out of my zypher P3 bits on rotors screws.

The one set of hex bits that's never failed me is Snap On.

Torx can get squirrelly if its a flathead screw as there's considerably more surface under the flathead/countersink that can be held with sealer or rust. None of the other fastener head styles have that negative feature. The one positive though, is that you have a nice centered pilot hole to start drilling. Short cored hole and the head will pop right off and then just have to deal with extracting the remaining screw thread, which is usually under significantly less torque resistance.

Snap-on are my favorite. Best of the tool truck bits in that size by far. They are harder and will snap before they twist.

Thought you were asking about drill bits at first.

Bondhus is what we used at work after Snap On voided the warranty on theirs. We were breaking a few a week regularly, to the point the guys called them Snap Off. Was like pulling teeth getting replacements too.
Multi million dollar tool budget each year and the rep still acted like $100 of tool replacements were going to bankrupt him.
We ended up firing Snap On and giving Matco the contract later on, but that was mostly a rep issue vs the brands.

A few broken Bondhus, but they lasted MUCH longer.

At the time, was a US made tool, as we weren't allowed normally allowed overseas stuff (fed government)

That being said, I have a set of Snap Ons at home that work was throwing out after we went to Bondhus and I've never broken one.

I've noticed that the 5/16" are bigger than the 1/4" bits but smaller than the 10mm bits. Other than that, they are the same.

Just to clarify, I mean 5/16 bits that you use in a driver or bit socket....I should have clarified that!

I was assuming 5/16” hex shank size, like my impact driver uses, vs the 1/4” hex shank all my other tools use. I bought Lisle based on feedback here.
