I will give you my OPINION no open flames please! If I had no vise and was not inclined to seek out an old high dollar used USA job (the way I actually do) I would try the new Craftsman vise that looks to be constructed almost like a Wilton. However it is Chinese made so who knows how good it actually is; it is red in color and says professional on it (knowing my luck that likely means you toss it in the crapper quicker!) and like all Craftman vises will likely be warranted for only a year. That is probably what I would buy though (just my opinion)

You should be able to pick up a old used vise locally for about $100 for a 3" or 4" wide jaw vise, except anywhere within about 300 miles of me, can't find one. There seems to be many up in the midwest and northeast, particularly in a garage in New Jersey.....

I have one of these:

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100349451

The paint ***** and the metal is kinda soft, but it's good enough for what I do. I also have an old Chas. Parker next to it....

I have one just like it, it's ok. The main reason i bought it, I like the swivel feature along with the pipe clamp on the opposite end (really handy for tubing work) Mainly used as a welding vise. Agreed the metal is kinda soft.

Got a few PMs about the old vises I have. Will check the garage to see what I have and will get back to you. Wasn't looking to make money off them, it's just every time I see one cheap at a sale I pick it up. Except for the 150lb wilton I got last year and gave away. Thing was just too big - always in the way lol.
