Thanks for the heads up. Need a sturdier test light than my beat up old Kragen generic. I'm in for one, might have to pick up one of the compact ones he's selling as well.

Why would someone prefer the larger one, when the 'compact' one is less money?

Same here. I wandered over to his other auctions and bought one of the smaller ones. For the type of work I do, I think it will work better. Cheaper too, and not a blem. I figure after 20 years of using the same cheap auto parts store quality test light I'd make a leap and see if MAC sells something nicer to use.

I just bought one from HF for $3, looks almost identical to the Mac without the name on it.

Ya....Ive bought about 4 or 5 of those over the years and have never had food luck with them cause they break so easily. The plastic they use shatters/cracks if set down wrong, so you end up using some clear packing tape to keep the threaded plastic housing from spreading open at the crack. lol been there done that!. Plus they use real cheap bulbs that last maybe a couple uses and the filament breaks. I got so tired of grabbing a test light that I just used and know has to be working and then hours after testing realize the bulb is out again. Just my 2c......But Im sure looking forward to having a nice test light. And for 15$ you cant go wrong. Even comes in a handy carry case.

Incandescent bulb. I should be able to get a amp draw for you this weekend, that is it the weather doesn't want to stay in the negatives all day. :D

Why would someone prefer the larger one, when the 'compact' one is less money?

The compact one has a shorter probe. Before ordering, I tried to find the screw on probe that is an option for the smaller model, but couldn't find a part number for it. I'm going to order a 'compact' model as well, since I know I'll use it.
There will always be those situations where you won't be able to fit the body of the smaller model where you can just run the long insulated probe on the larger model right through (large bundles of wires in the way comes to mind; like behind an instrument cluster).

I prefer the full size model, sometimes I can't get into somewhere with my hands so the extra length helps. I got mine a few days ago and mismarked but works as promised.

Sorry, just been waiting for a new starter for my truck to arrive today. I'll get under the hood today or tomorrow and get a reading with the fluke. Weather is finally starting to stay in the double digits again.

Just got mine today. Very nice! Well worth the price. This should be the last test light ill ever buy, hopefully anyway. Plastic looks real sturdy, and has a nice sharp tip. I bought the MM leads as well and they look heavy duty. Overall great buy..... Nice find!

Very happy. Now I can downgrade my old parts store brand test light to the tool bag behind the seat in my truck.

I got mine yesterday and showed it to the wife. She says, Don't you already have one of those? I roll my eyes in disbelief as I'm thinking about the 25 plus pairs of shoes she has. And the one I do have is well over 20 years old and worn. Sheesh! :dunno:

Sorry about that, finally had a free day. Checked it on my DC power supply (12.16v) with the Fluke and it showed 220mA draw from the bulb. I have the mini showing up tomorrow, so I'll see if that shows a similar draw.

Sorry, no such luck.

I have many test light that draws 200mA. Been looking for one that draws 100mA with no luck.

It would be nice, but would have to find a bulb in the same size with less of a draw. If that ever happens, I'll be in for a couple of them.

Granted, if you're needing something with that low of an amp draw, better off just using a meter over a test light.
