looking for down lights in LED - the ones that run off of a transformer

all the ones I see with LEDs seem to be "architectural" which is a word used to increase prices AFAIK

Good and cheap. Nothing is available.

Spend the money on a quality set with excellent connectors for the fixtures to the main power line. This is what fails. Find out how the connectors work and their replacement cost.

You want a strong well made connector. Most are cheap plastic that have metal prongs that pierce the main power line and is held closed by a plastic tab. These break 100% of the time. Look for big thick plastic connectors that are screwed together. Or consider soldering the connections yourself and not use the supplied connectors.

Second vote for VOLT lighting. Not necessarily cheap.......but quality from the solid brass materials, stainless transformers, wire, weather proof connectors.

For actual landscape lighting, it's commonly called moonlight lighting now. Way more dark-sky friendly than all of the cheap uplighting you see.

Yes. This I know. But, I dont think that this is what the OP is looking for.

How much per fixture do you consider cheap and what kind of longevity are you looking to get out of them?

You might consider cheap fixtures then get cheap led bulbs. My current house had lights based on halogen bulbs (all dead). Rather than use 20W lamps I'm using 3W led lamps. LEDs save me about $34 in power each year and the bulbs cost me about $20.
