Picked up these 6 foot workbenches. 3 inch welded steel legs. 2 inch thick butcher block with a very nice finish. One of the benches had a 3 1/2 in Brink & Cotton vice that seems to be in good shape. The benches, I am told< were new and unused. Aside from a few scuffs...they do appear to be new. Hammered finish. They look much like the Gladiator benches...but a bit beefier. No markings anywhere.

Anyone have a clue on manufacturer? Either way I am happy with them. They were $100 each. I only needed one...but I couldnt pass up the other one. ill find a place for it...lol.

McMasterr Carr & Grainger sell benches similar to yours. They're mfg. by Edsal & Lyons just to name a few. You can buy the legs, tops, drawers & other accesories seperately.

Ahhh yes. It does seem to be the Whalen. Well I guess its not as good a deal as I thought. I guess it does save me a couple hundred though. For $199 new that's not a bad price either. I am impressed with the quality. I will see how they hold up when I start abusing them...lol.

And yes...those are drywall screws...with washers...lol. That will be remedied shortly. Damn vise is on the back too.

And thanks for the comment on the Camaro. Its a 2001 with 37k on it. I am headed to the garage to pull the drivers side cylinder head. Damn brand new lifters I installed has a tick. Thats not gonna work!

I had an old friend that worked as a tech at a Chevy dealership for almost 40 years, If he had a lifters that would leak down and tick or clatter on start up he always would put a quart of automatic transmission fluid in the motor oil. Usually fixed them right up. can you not adjust them again and get the tick out of it?

They are LS7 hydraulic lifters. So there is no adjustment. Its an excellent lifter but it seems they have had some failures. These were just put in when swapping out the cam and valve springs/cylinder heads. They were soaked in oil and then installed with oil. But on start up there was a nasty chirping...metal on metal for just a few seconds while oil pressure was being built. Ever since its had a nasty tick....too loud to just be a slightly noisy lifter. I am thinking there is an obstruction in the oil hole....or just a defect. Anyways...its narrowed down to the drivers side ..so only that head will come off and replace all lifters on that side. I have replacement lifters ready to go in. Head studs being used as well.

As far as the ATF in the motor. I would advise against it. ATF does have superior cleansing properties to regular oil....but all the other properties are different as well. Also....in this case it was definitely not a case of sludge or build up that may benefit from the ATF.

ben

Nice! Hold on to it. I noticed that prices for low mile 98-02 LS1 cars have hit a plateau. So many people like me have destroyed them and made them race cars...lol. I had a black 99 SS that was taken to the extreme. Thats why I want a nice queit and tight one to drive now. It has a small cam, mild heads and quiet exhaust. Damn cars are actually nice to drive if you dont ***** them out...lol.
