My wife and I spent the day at a country auction today. I had delivered a bunch of the stuff last week so I had an idea what would be there. I think I scored pretty good. Let the hating begin. :spit:

Cool old Zenith (Marshall Wells) bicycle: $20.

If anyone can tell me how old it is I'd be most appreciative.

Beach workbench on castors: $20.

I also got a few boxes of assorted tools, some old bins and pails, and a bunch of other goodies. I filled my trailer up with stuff and spent less than $175 for the whole works. I love a good auction!!

The bench is terrific, as is the old table saw. What brand is it and do you reckon it will work in present condition?

the bench and the saw were beyond "you ****!" so we'll have to devise a new category. Maybe, "you should be arrested for a crime of opportunity!"

Well, thanks for sharing and letting us live vicariously. It sure does look like you had a nice time.

I spent a few minutes looking at the inside of that dishwasher.....how on earth does that thing work?

The top shelf is solid...nothing on the bottom....

What are your plans for the work bench?

Nice haul
Marshall -wells was the house brand for Crest Hardware and I think Dominion Hardware until about 1975 or so.
I had a marshall wells baseball glove and bicycle when i was a kid (1970-ish)

I spent the day at an auction yesterday too.

$2 for a b&d sander, jigsaw and a cb walkie talkie
$3 for a Soldering gun, leather tool belt, router bits and parts drawers
$12 for an old craftsman commercial circular saw with a new dewalt diamond blade
$5 for a nice stanley sweetheart cabinet scraper and an impact nail puller
$1 for three axes

Thanks for the comments, guys!

I haven't tried out the table saw yet, I need to replace the rod that holds the motor up. Otherwise it looks pretty decent. I didn't notice a brand name on it, but I haven't had any time to mess with this stuff since I got it home.

The dishwasher seems to be getting the most interest...it was gutted and a solid shelf was mounted in the bottom with a sliding shelf mounted where the upper dish-tray used to sit. It is simply a unique storage cabinet with a decent chopping block top, on wheels. Something to make most people look at it and think WTF?? :D

There's some other stuff in the pile that I haven't had time to look at yet, a few boxes of tools and hardware, etc. Once I have time to sorth through it all I'll post more pics.

I kinda feel bad for the elderly people who were selling this stuff. Most of it went for next to nothing. :(

Nice haul...love the workbench...as for the dishwasher, had to laugh. My folks had a GE model almost exactly like that - same color, same butcher block top...it was a portable that got wheeled over from the corner to the sink when they would run it. Only used it for "special" occasions...

My Dad took off the top when the got rid of it and it is now covering the "sink-hole" from the old kitchen countertop that he installed in the garage when they had the kitchen updated. Nice use of an old item...

Suuuure ya doooo.... Bad - but not bad enough to give them what it's worth!
:lol_hitti

Had anyone bid against me I would have happily paid more for most of the stuff. :)

I laid out all the "box lot" stuff today and snapped a couple pics. This is what I came away with...

These beauty salon trays & stands will work great for holding parts and tools in the shop.

My wife is a gardener so we picked up some old milk cans and a copper boiler to use as planters.

All good stuff to be sure but I'm digging on the art deco hack saw. Is that a standard length blade? It looks like a shorty.

I found a name on the table saw...it's a Craftsman Model 50.
The art deco hack saw is a short blade unit. It's pretty cool!
Some of the bigger c-clamps say "Taiwan" on them. They're still better than nothing.
The workbench will be put to good use in the new garage. It'll be nice to have a bench that I can move around when needed. I'll also build in a permanent as well.
