So this is on CL right now, though seller hasn't gotten back to me yet.

It's at $400... seems OK to me but wondering what others think.

That's not horrible if it is in good working condition, not rusted out and the drawers or slides ain't f'ed in any way shape or form. They are heavy built boxes for a friction slide box. I have that bottom box.

Should be a MB910 top and a MB920 bottom. ~33" wide x 18" deep, bottom is ~39" tall.

I will say this though I personally wouldn't want one as a main working box. You really need to use both hands to open the wide drawers once loaded or it puts undo stress on the slides.

Quite honestly if given the choice between that and the HF44" as an only box I'd probably lean towards the HF box unless that Mac was in good condition. Check to make sure the drawers have their dividers in them, people use to cut them out for space not realizing that they added structural integrity to the box. Just my 2¢

Thanks for the responses... if it's really 33" instead of 39" then probably not enough bigger than my 26" to be worth my while.

I would have bought the HF box a while ago, but I have multiple friends who work for American tool box companies (one Kennedy and one at Champion), and I've a feeling they wouldn't be talking to me for a while if I bought a Chinese box, but might be able to get away with buying an old US box.

I really want a Kennedy, and my friend has been keeping an eye out for a good deal on a factory 2nd for me, but the right thing at the right price hasn't shown up yet.

Yea it is most definitely a 33" x 18" box. Maybe the seller measured over the handle or maybe they just can't use a tape measure :dunno: The drawers are ~27"*17" inside IIRC.

I have two boxes just like that one. One I restored, the other is waiting to be restored. I really like them. Just enough nostalgia to be cool, but still fully functional.

The only advice I have is to not overload the drawers. They will hold quite a bit, but the friction slides really don't like being overloaded.

I believe it's a really good value at $400.

I love the looks of them. There is one on craigslist near me that is repainted and asking $1300. I think that is steep!

:eyecrazy: Have a link to the ad by chance? That better be in NOS condition. There is one locally for $500 pretty rough, been listed for over a year. I guess they can't take the hint.

I'm with zkling. Get the HF. I've had those Mac boxes, and mine were in damn good shape, but once loaded it's 2 hands to open and close.

I'd only buy this Mac box for permanent storage and not main box. But not at 400 either, at least out here. I'd pay $250 max, but we have many boxes out here to chose from....my 2 pennies

$300 and there wouldn't be a doubt. $350 might be pushing it...based on the pics you posted and assuming the drawers slide well. I had a roller like that a few years back and would still have it if I hadn't traded it for my KR 560.

If I had the money and the opportunity I would go for it. They don't make cool stuff like that anymore! Don't worry about all the nay sayers, they will always piss on stuff that others have. Ken.

The real funny part about your comment is that the people that are telling him to look the other direction all have owned or currently own one of those boxes, myself included

I still have that one...34" I think :headscrat That was that Military Helo Box from CL dude for $50 bucks I think....he thought it was an old C-man....I actually like that one. Here's that photo...

But I had the ones like OP is looking at when I got the KR537/637 set up. Sold all those.

EDIT: I had the Matco set up with the full depth top.(Photo below) Still not the cat's meow. Especially after my Vidmar and Equipto. I am now boycotting all non-industrial boxes. lol.

Yea I was thinking of that one on the right. If the ones on the left are 26" boxes they are a bit different than the 33" box being discussed above. Still the same principal applies for the double handle drawers in operation though. Actually the problem is worse on the 33" boxes.

Yes an industrial cabinet would be nice and agree usually tops a regular tool box, but they are also a PAIN to move for someone that doesn't have a truck or trailer to move by themselves.

Yea, the Matcos I had were the MB510A and MB520A Flagship Rollaways.

And definitely, Industrial is NOT for everyone. Huge, heavy, PITA to move etc. I think I'm attracted to heavy immovable objects. :lol_hitti

Sorry for sidetrackin OP! Get new BB drawers and be happy!
