Why haggle if you don't know whether you want it?

How does the price compare to the Kal badged one? That would be where I would look..

i dont think its a bad price but thats a pretty basic meter and for 50 you can go pretty much anywhere and get an auto ranging and probably get some other functions that you may or may not use. personally id either go with fluke or go with a lower end(CMan or something from HD or Lowes etc...) autoranging for around that price.

im starting my apprenticship next year, so this wouldn't be a professional technicians multimeter

then personally if i was you id just go to sears or HD or wherever and pick up an autoranging meter for around that price. honestly youd be paying for the name on that one although for 50 its not like your throwing money out the window. This is one where either way you go you wont be wrong. i would just rather have the autoranging feature vs having a name brand especially since its a rebrand but then again im sure if matco rebrands its probably a quality meter. completely up to you but for that price you cant go wrong either way

Kal Equip had some good meters back in the day.
However, this meter is missing two important features that would cause me not to buy it:

1. No backlite display
2. No Min/Max function.

Buy and ESI multimeter from Amazon. Great full featured meter.

JMHO.

It's not bad. It's nice that it goes up to 1000V in case you begin to work on hybrids. Don't know much of Kal equipment though.

Agree. OP I can't stand people like you. Why talk someone down if you don't plan on buying it. You are the ultimate of frustrating time waster.

With that said, you may want to look at a Fluke 87 (gold standard) or if you are on a budget, which it sounds like you are. The craftsman professional line is pretty good and can be had on sale for under $50. Most of them are just re-bagged excel meters.
