Still hard to tell what is new and NOS in the S-K world.

Unless you buy from a brick and mortar S-K distributor reseller (the only way i do S-K these days) of buy off a tool truck rep that can tell you what he got and when (which I also have) , it's a **** shoot.

Any local resellers are less than stellar or non-existant usually 3 out of 4 times any buying online is not a guarantee you are getting the good old NOS, the iffy in-between bad-days stuff or the stuff now being made since last year or late 2010.

**** shoot.

Or two distinct words with periods if they send you the bad stuff....LOLOLOLOL

****. Shoot.

NOS.

SK doesn't make those ratchets anymore. I think they are offering rebuild kits again, but I don't remember exactly. Perform a search. If memory serves, the "new" SK was giving out the remaining stock of rebuild kits, but now is supplying them again. But, I may be misremembering.

They are 72 tooth. Basically the same design lives on and is now used in Proto and MAC branded ratchets, as Stanley now owns Facom.

So..is NOS SK good or bad..or even more direct - are these ratchets a good deal, and worth buying for a weekend (weekday if I break something :lol_hitti) DIYer? My "new" 1/2" CM feels sloppy and skips teeth.

The listing previously had them selling at $49.80. He moved it down to $39.80 after I messaged him offering $30 shipped (lol - I feel "wary" that perhaps the seller is on this forum..).

SK at the end had some quailty issues, more or less due to their downward sprial. That said for the most part good tools were still being made. I bought a lot of SK not long before they went under and never had any quailty problems. The tools are as far as I know all identical, down to the part number. So no, I would not have a problem buying nos SK.

Those are the Tuff1 ratchets. As noted above, 72-teeth Facom design. I have the 1/4 and it's my favorite 1/4-inch ratchet. It's a bit smallish, but it's smooth and well-knurled. Excellent chrome, too. I don't have a bad thing to say about it.

These are no longer produced by SK, since it was a Facom design, so I don't know what the availability of rebuild kits for it is, but I can't really see myself breaking this tool, so I'm not worried. COO is USA.

I've got seven of the three eighth models, and one each of the quarter and half inch press. I may buy one of those sets, for spares.

Don`t know how the seller is still selling on there saying that SK will honor a lifetime warranty on them. I got listings cancelled, and a strike against for me for evening mentioning any type of warranty.

I bought them - will take them apart and inspect/regrease on arrival.

Thanks for the advice guys! There is also a nice looking Williams 1/2" round head ratchet on ebay for $25.90...looks like a good deal. I can't justify buying ANOTHER ratchet though haha

I thought about taking mine apart to lube but as good as they work I'm not messing with them. If you take them apart let me know if it was dry in their,I think SK use a light oil from the factory.
