Hoping I did well on this find for an occasional use tool set. I'll preface this saying I have a chinese-ium 3/4 set already but could resist an American set.

This SK 3/4 black oxide set was on CL, heck it lasted a few days. Ratchet, t breaker, extensions and 13 sockets (plus one more 6 pt) and tool box for $60. The ratchet was seized, but a squirt of brake clean and light oil and it works like a charm.

I see other SK 3/4 chrome sets but don't see any other black oxide sets.

Did I do well?

Yes you did very well, those sets go for more money then that even on a good day, and SK on top of that...A home run in my book, not a you **** deal but still a good deal.

that is cool. sk made a few black set back in the 90-2000 range but i don't think any of it 3/4 drive. by the looks of the box you have some ww2 production or mil surplus. i have never seen black finish 3/4 drive sk stuff

Wow! I would say your conspiracy theory sounds VERY plausible. The fellow who sold them to me was likely in his late 60's and he said they were his fathers set who worked at the old local Air Force base. Also there appears to be some cosmoline type of residue on the handle of the ratchet.

Given this I am amazed the other than the chrome, these visually look identical to new SK production. Guess the moral is if you have a good design stick with it.
