Good deal? (Bought a new box)

I need a new box for work (trust me my box is jammed to the max 26" cman 8 drawer). My dealer said he had a scratch and dent kra2411. He said he'd be knocking off at least 300 and more depending on the condition. There is a snap on discount as well as a free tool discount so he said I could be ~2800.

I was gonna call him back and say if I put a big enough downpayment on it could he put it on the truck account.

But first I want to know if it's worth it or not. I am building up my tools and need a box that locks with a key ( mine doesn't ), ball bearing drawers and I want to have a full width drawer. Also I want at least a 40" roll cab nothing smaller.

I know snap on isn't everything but craigslist around here doesn't have any deals that hot.

While snap on boxes are very nice you have to remember that your box won't make you money it only keeps your tools safe and organized! Depending on what type of work you do I've heard great things about harbor freight boxes and theycertainly match your criteria. The 41" bottom is on sale for 350 on the site so that would allow you $2150 in snap on tools! Just my .02 and I'm sure a war will be started soon

if that is too much look at the krsc line of roll carts. the krsc46 is my favorite

lifetime warranty helps when choosing a box and if you have a dealer then support an american instead of buying chinese junk...

I am in no way needing it to be snap on. I'd love to see some deals on craigslist pop up and I'd pay cash for them. But around here it's all 26" boxes which I just don't want. I need some drawers that are not 1" deep like on my craftsman.

I will look at the krsc's. I honestly am not familiar with snap ons tons of different boxes to be honest.

Edit: just looked at the krsc's and they are too small for what I need. I want something that has some different sized drawers also.

Shaun is that a decent deal on the kra2411 I posted?

In a commercial enviroment a tool box gets quite a work out. Ive made it a habit of buying top quality Snap-On or Mac boxes because they must hold a lot of tools and the drawers open many times per day. I havent seen many Craftsman boxes that won't withstand 5 years of abuse for a line technician but some guys are a little easier on them. That said I have used a pair of the 41 inch US General boxes as roll carts and they saw an extra ordinary amout of abuse for several years and were still working great. I like them so much I bought a new set when I closed my shop to catch the overflow of tools from selling off my Big Corwell boxes. I have lots of tools but I'm pressed for room with my Macsimizer, costco stainless (junk) and the new US Generals. I don't like the paint on the US General 41's but is my only complait with them. I have about 775.00 in the roll cab, tob box and full length side locker. It's a real bargin and you hardly hear a harsh word about them from the people who actually own one.

I saw one of the new US General 52 inch boxes the other day in Harbor freight and was very impressed with the build quality of the box. Ive been around tool boxes all my life and can tell quality and value when I see it. FOR THE MONEY nothing can compare to this box. US General also has a 72 inch box that has the same dementions as my Maximizer at less than 1/4 the cost. I havent seen one but it looks good in the photos but I won't comment on the quality until I've been up close and personal.

The boxes to stay away from are:

The stainless boxes from Costco (and the ones off ebay)
Kobolt
Husky

Here is the thing. (And I'm guilty of falling in the trap) why does it cost over 8000 dollars to own a large roll cab tool box (just the bottom box)? What justifies that cost? How much does it really cost to build a tool box? It's all about status of owning the Snap-On or MAC, Matco, Cornwell name. You are buying a really nice quality box but these companies know that a big name brand box carries status like an executive who wears a Rolex, Omega, Briterling or other expensive watch and a 1000 dollar breif case. I think there are some deal out there if you shop carefully. While like the US General boxes at HF I wouldn't attemp to make a living with the tools. In my Macsimizer 95% is Snap-On. for me it's all about comfort and duability, Snap-On hand tools for me are the best hands down. I don't like their air tools, electric tools but when it comes to the rest they are the best. As pro-snap-on as I am I also am open minded enough to know there are companies selling a great tool box at a fair price.

The older Canadian made Husky boxes with bearing slides are very nice so don't exclude those, but the new ones don't look so good.

I was playing with one of the new huskeys at the store it felt real cheap, then I saw the made in china sticker on the back :(

Yes the Canadian made huskey boxes are great!

How big of a scratch or dent? They're on sale right now for $3865.00 if you buy a red one. $2800.00? Doesn't sound too bad, but it depends on the damage and what you're willing to look at everyday.

Personally, I think the KRA boxes feel cheap.

For that kind of money I would be looking in to Lista. Less money, deep full width drawers, and a much better built box. Just my two cents though.

You can get a 48 inch wide 28 inch deep 40 inch high cabinet for around 2 grand delivered. Talk to member Roark Industrial Solutions on here.

It's a few scratches on the box is what my dealer had said. I hadn't seen it yet but I'll check it out soon.

What is the differences in the krl line and kra? Would this kra last me years as a mechanic? I have a decent amount of tools now but no where what I'd need. I have a job where boss let's me use his stuff for specialty tools etc. When I mve on I'd need my own stuff. So I am building up my tool collection slowly.

Edit: I have checked craigslist around here and there isn't any good deals unless the boxes are huge or already have tools which I don't want. If there was a krl for a good price I'd be all over it.

It's a fair price especially on payments. Look at it and decide if you think it will work for you! It's a nice box period.

Thanks. I'm sure any snap on box is nice.

My dealer said we could do 25-30 a week payments. I'm gonna talk to him tomorrow so I'll get an update and ask him about krls etc.

I talked go my dealer and we threw the numbers around and had some thoughts we were gonna do a new krl double bank (im not good with numbers) for like 4100 with 1k in free tools. BUT then he said he had a single bank kra 7 drawer on a trade he'd do for 600. He added when i want a bigger box he'll give me the 600 in on a trade for a new box.

I plan on saving for a few months and putting a very big deposit down on a krl.

Thanks for the advice though guys.

Not a bad deal, that KRA for $600, especially from your dealer. My 26" top box is on a cart right now, I'd love to mate it with an actual drawer box.

I think the best part is that he'll give me that 600 back on a trade to the krl that I really want in a few months.

So I ended up getting that $600 box. Its a KRA4008 8 drawers, electric orange, absolutely nothing cosmetically wrong with it! The only thing I hate about it is the 4 1" drawers but for $600 and more room then my old 4 drawer craftman bottom I'll deal with it.

I'm keeping my old top box on there for a few months until I save for a krl or a bigger roll cab. I bought this as an intermediate box (its almost full right now).
