This was triggered in the "things that piss you off thread" where these LED screw in bulbs tend to die regardless of usage hours at about the 3 year mark. Any recommendations for a brand that is good in the longevity side?

These may be great in terms of electricity usage but replacing them at $6+/bulb is not saving $.

Philips seem to be decent. I've had a set of dusk to dawns (self contained sensor) in my porch sconces since Nov 2017.

I have cree bulbs in my house everywhere that are about 9 years old. I have had one die, cree sent a warranty replacement.

I have phillips 100W equivalents in my outdoor lights that run about 6 hours a day avearage, they are 7 years old with issues.

I just install a 48' string of the Feit brand lights. These use the E26 bulbs and I spent a lot of time reading reviews of string lights before choosing the Feit lights. The reviews I found were very favorable and after getting the string and looking it over it was obvious that it was a well made high quality product. Obviously I can't personally vouch for the longevity of the bulbs yet, but each of the bulbs lit up the first time I turned the string on. This is the string I bought, Feit 710090.

I didn't have an outlet anywhere close to where I wanted to run these lights, so I replaced the door light fixture o the deck with this one, which provided two GFI protected outlets. I used a plug in Alexa compatible Wi-Fi dimmer adapter so I could control them easier. That light fixture allows adjustments of how it's bulb turns on and off, so I just leave the light switch in the on position all the time. Here is the bulb only location on Amazon

Damn, you asked a really simple question and I respond with an avalanche of data, sorry.

What brand are you buying that costs $6/bulb. I would think if the $6 bulbs aren't lasting very long, you might at least switch to a cheaper brand. I buy whatever is the right color and inexpensive so I don't feel bad about replacing them.

I have a variety from GE, Phillips, Feit in the 60-100W ranges. The ones that died were Feit 60W levels and those I recollect were in that $6'ish price range. The GE Refresh 100W that went in was in a two pack that after tax was $14.**. Next run to Costco a box of the 60W is on the list. They are reasonable there.

*Edit, just checked and the Feit were 9w/60watt types. I thought it was brighter with the 100w in there.

Cree no longer makes lamps. Feit is the worst brand in the lighting industry. There is very little difference in quality between the major brands. None of them actually MAKE the lamp anyway. Look for GE, Satco, Eiko, Green Creative. If nothing else, at least these brands stand behind their product if there's ever a problem.
Good luck,
CD

Thanks! I will have to keep the receipts now. They tout LED has having X hours but it is disappointing. SMH at the so called improved tech.

Fluorescent had delivered above and beyond here. The ballast that came with the house built in '68 lasted till '22. I've put in maybe 2 sets of tubes and these run about 6 hours/day, the tubes easily go 8-10 years.
