Wondering what would be a good electric garage heater for my 12x 20 garage and that i could also for my 12x20 portable shelter. Thanks for any info.

Where are you ? How cold it gets will help determine what size heater you need. Is you portable shelter insulated ? Is your garage insulated ?

I am in the same boat as OP and looking for a ceramic electric heater. My garage is ~ 20x26 and insulated except front garage door. It gets down to about 30 degrees at its coldest in the winter for me.

most resistance electric heaters are about 99% efficient, regardless of what the advertisements tell you.

I'm in Mass. Garag is sided but not insulated( guess I should). Portable shelter is not insulated but will have plastic or tarp on the asphalt .
Actually they are all 100% efficient. 100% of the electricity consumed is turned into heat. Somewhere

At best, a plug in type heater will warm up the garage temporarily...and the garage will lose heat very quickly...keeping plugged in to keep the garage warm will be a very expensive option without any insulation...
As for the portable shelter...I wouldn't even bother...it won't keep heat at all.
A good electric heater for your garage would not also be a good heater for a portable shelter. The shelter is going to rapidly lose any heat you put in so it will need something that can put out a lot more heat very quickly. A propane radiant heater or torpedo heater might be best for that.
The garage can get something that is permanently installed and it will need 230v wiring. You can't get enough heat from a 120v plugin heater for a space that size.
I have a Dayton G73 hanging in my attached garage. The garage is about 20x20. Works very well...and while I leave it at a lower setting most of the time..it warms the garage quickly if needed.
All that being said...it runs on 240, so its not really "portable"...but perhaps two different units are needed for these two locations.

I'd highly advise you to insulate the garage, especially if you intend to use it. Any heat you generate from whatever source (electric/gas/LP/wood) is going to dissipate rather quickly without insulation.
Even with out heating or cooling, it'll help keep the winter cold out of the garage and the heat in the summer.
Once it's nicely insulated, you'll be amazed at how much easier it is to get the garage warm and keep it warm.
