I know this must be somewhere in the forum, but I'm in a hurry...

I'm looking to start building up my fastener supply. I'm building a cabinet to hold several (10-20 or so) Plano 3730 Pro Latch utility boxes.

I want to build up a modest supply of various fasteners. I could probably head to H-D, Lowes, Ace, etc. and get everything I want, but that would cost a lot, and I dont' mind waiting some in order find online what I need.

So my real question is, do you guys have any good reliable sources online for fasteners? I know the usual fastenal, MSC, McMaster, Grainger, but are those really the cheapest? Plus, I'm not looking for boxes of 1000 here, just a hundred here 50 there. that type of thing.

Thanks.

Adam

Check in your phonebook, it's may be your best bet. Like Fastenal and Grainger are in all the big cities, you might find someone that is only from your town, and thus they usually will deal with smaller accounts. There's a place by me that will sell me any quantity of anything they have in stock, or I can buy it by the bag. If they have to order it for me though, I need a minimum of 100. So, in your case, that minimum order would be acceptable anyways. Their prices were much much much cheaper then Ace and everyone else. I actually found the place because it is close to me and I needed 2 bolts. The lady just gave em to me because she was like the paper costs more then we are gonna bill you for em. I have since gone back for a bunch of small orders.

I concur.

Visit your local industrial fasteners joint - they might act weird and smell funny, but they are going to have what you are looking for and they are good folks to get to know - if you can get past the odor....

I visited a local scrap yard and saw pallets loaded with fasteners. These were sold off as scrap. Not defects, just inventory I guess. It was like 10c a pound!!! I stocked up.

For So. Cal locals, the place is between Fontana and Rancho Cuca. I don't recall the place.

Perhaps calling a "local" fastener manufacturer (if you have one) and see if they've got overstock??

Otherwise I would have said Mcmaster. They charge a premuim. It's good stuff, but you get exactly what (grade) you pay for. But don't assume it will be USA made.

MSC sells in boxes of 100 and others in boxes of 50... In some cases 10 at a time.

Lawson supply is an excellent place to get stuff from. You need an account to check prices, but they dont sell junk there. They also sell awesome assortments of stuff too. I have had my dad order me quite a few things from them
