Good grease gun?

Looking for a decent quality grease gun. Not the smaller grease pistols that take the smaller sized grease tubes. Just the regular size. I imagine like all tools, I can pay $9,800 for a snap on brand or something. Just looking for the one that is good quality, but isn't super expensive. The middle ground I guess. Which one would you recommend?

Also, just a hand pump one. No air power. Anything wrong with this one?

If you have air compressor I suggest this one

If you do not have a compressor I suggest this one

I got real tired of hand operated grease guns when I had to do the lubrication of my John Deere 2305 with a front end loader, backhoe and 62C mower deck. The mower deck had 3 points to lube, the front end loader has 10 points to lube, the backhoe has 8 points to lube and the tractor itself has 7 places that required lube. I bough a few years the first suggestion as it has paid for self many times over and I never looked back at hand lubing anymore

I still use a manual Lincoln, battery is always charged...;)
if I was running equipment I would be all over a battery unit if it had a 12V charger.

You mention not air power, but what about battery? While I still reach for the hand pump one on occasion, my DeWalt has been a life changer. Obviously dependent on what battery system you use for your tools. You won't ever look back.

My vote goes for cordless battery. We have 3 and love them for the semis. I’ve got a cheap legacy one and it outlasted dad’s Lincoln. He also just picked up a 2 spd Milwaukee. Haven’t used it yet.

I have the manual Lincoln 1133 Pistol Grip manual, Lincoln 1162 Air and a DeWalt 20v max. I usually reach for the manual and DeWalt first and if don't work out then I use the air powered gun. All have their place in my shop.

I bought one of these at tractor supply. I bought the one with a lever instead of the pistol grip. Really easy to switch grease cartridges and I like the bleeder valve to remove air. It was around 50 bucks. I do not like the grease at tractor supply though. Let it sit for a period of time and you’ll have a huge oily mess.

TSC had it for 10 years and still hasn’t failed me yet. I’m on the hunt for a 20v dewalt though

Watch sales for used 12v lincolns, they are selling cheaper since the higher volt models came out. Wish I had 2 at the price I paid. 2 new batteries & 1 charger under $90 off the net if that helps.

I'm not sure if you're invested in a cordless tool platform yet, but this is a sweet deal when it's available in the summer months.

Yeah this will just be for occasional home use. I should have said that I'm looking for hand pump only. Just greasing up my own stuff every once in awhile, or maybe working on a friend's vehicle from time to time. I used to use hand pump back in the day and it never bothered me because I wasn't greasing 50 things at a time. Only looking for hand pump.

Side note:

Powered would've been handy in the oilfield though. "Go grease up all that stuff as soon as you get here, every day!!" Always wondered if "every day" was actually necessary. There was globs of grease all over that stuff. It was nasty.

We'll be coming out with this pretty soon for people who want a cordless option without having to pay for a new cordless tool and battery.

I have two of the Proto model 33HD that I really like loaded with my two most commonly used greases and two of the Lincoln 1133 models loaded with greases not used that often but like them as well.

If you use them enough they will all end up jamming or leaking eventually. I consider grease guns a consumable item. I've used Lincolns, Alemites, NAPAs and cheapies from TSC, Walmart, and Northern Tool. All have been manual, other than a couple air powered ones. I've never used a battery operated one because I think they're too expensive. I think the longest lasting grease gun I've ever owned I bought for $1.00 at an auction, and I couldn't find a name on it anywhere.

In my experience they all last for a while, and they all pretty much fail at some point. It doesn't matter how much I've spent on them. The little vent valve at the top is nice, but it's just as easy to back the top off a couple threads to let the air escape. I usually replace the rigid pipe with a flexible hose on my guns to get better access to fittings on my equipment. Of course with the flexible hose it would be nice to have three hands sometimes when using a lever action gun. A pistol grip model is nicer with a flexible hose, but it requires more pumps and if I use it enough my hand will cramp up.

I guess I probably haven't helped much. A Lincoln or Alemite is a good gun though.

I bought a Milwaukee M12 battery grease gun and will never touch a manual gun again. Well worth the money, IMO.

The air and battery powered ones are more money than I want to pay for this. The reason being, is how little it will be used. I won't ever even use the thing enough for my hand to cramp. A few pumps here and there, maybe a few times a year. That will be it.

Plus I was kind of thinking of getting one where its more along the lines of your arm that would cramp up, if anything was going to cramp up. I'm sure you've all seen the style where the pump handle is long, too long to be used by just working your hand.

We have had good luck with theDewalt 20v grease gun(with lock n' lube of course + 5 amp/hr batts), it is used to grease a Cat Excavator which has about 25 grease fittings every 8 hours for the last 3 years.
When it gets time for some track adjustment, we reach for the Macnaught K40 Levergun handpump it is a Very well made unit and does a great job + develops 12,000 psi.

Any update on what you ended up with and how it's worked out?

Thanks!
