Well, I spent about 2.5mnths gathering intel from the GJ so that I could build my 'once in a lifetime' 30x50x14 shop, and do it right the first time.

I did well, and made a lot of notations, discussions, along with mental images. So how in the HE*@ did I fall short when it came to the actual color choice??:lol_hitti

My wife loves the idea of the shop, but being the unbelievable woman she is, said she could care less if it matched the house or not. Well, she does have a good eye for these things, and I wanted to get her in on the build. Our house is daaaark gray, so she thought 'Taupe' was the most accurate, and agreed that charcoal trim would finish it out.

Well, I'm thousands of miles away from the build, but when she sent me pics of the siding, my heart dropped. The closest color to our home is actually charcoal or burnished slate/bronze- both common colors for siding. Even she admitted that it is a lot lighter than the brochure we used to pick it.

This Taupe looks like a light tan, almost pink:willy_nil. Man, I hope it looks better in person than on a computer screen.

Thanks, Cougar. I feel thankful to even be able to afford a shop and the advice here on the GJ, much less what color it is. But it would have been the icing on the cake to absolutely nail the color.

I know that a 30x50x14 is not immense, but the peak is at 19ft, and with trusses spaced 10ft apart, I probably would have been fine at a 12ft wall height :wtf:

Before I sided my garage, it was painted a taupe color. At times, in direct sunlight, it did have a pink tint to it. Why ? I don't know but you might want to check out some pics of the Brits during WW2 in North Afrika, some of their tans had a pink color to it.

Would I worry about it, nah, not if the metal is already up. I'm sure it'll look fine.

Personally, if the house is dark gray, I probably would have went with a white or light gray and a dark gray wainscoting/trim.

If you dislike it after you get home, pull the metal off, put new on and use the "old" stuff on the interior walls.

Taupe is a darker tan to a grayish brown. If you wanted to match the house you should have went with gray if your house is a dark gray. But you are building a pole barn, and it will dominate no matter what color, so I think you'll be pleased with it. If not, then you can always paint it. Can you post up a pic of the house so we can compare?

Funny that you bring that up, Eric. I have a Dodge WC52 that I'm toying with the idea of painting in the Desert Tan shade. The first pic that the wife sent, I thought about the LRDG, and how they would have been proud.

I believe the Brits even called their land rovers "Pink Panther" due to the color.

If anybody mentions it looking pink, just tell them it's for breast cancer awareness, save the boobies. ;)

Computer screens usually do not accurately reproduce color unless the monitor is adjusted.

Also, colors on a printed brochure do not usually reflect reality.

But the color looks nice in the pictures.
