I need a 6-8 piece set of screwdrivers to keep in the car. I've found a set of Gearwrench brand, how do these hold up?

I bought this set a few years ago and then bought the singles that weren't included in the set. They have held up very well.

How are the handles? Easy to grip? Screwdrivers are one of those tool categories that are so commonly used, it usually pays to spend a little more to get a really decent set.

Not that the HF set is not good. I did have that set but only used them once or twice before putting them in a toolbox for my nephew.

Handles are great on these and overall they are a good bet for a cheap set.

My gripe with them is that they don't fit the phillips heads near as well as my other drivers do. They don't fit bad, but I almost always choose my multi-bit driver over them because of this somewhat poor fitment.

Oh, that'd be a reason to skip the set then. Don't want to damage fasteners for 10 years of use just to save a few bucks.

Wiha and Wera are about a draw in my experience. Op said he wanted a 6-8 pc set. They are the cheapest Weras, and will last practically forever, and I'm sure you could find a cheaper price if you looked around, although $25 for 6 screwdrivers isn't *that* expensive.

Agreed, I was being a bit of a smart ***.

Expensive is all relative. Maybe $25-$30 isn't a lot to you but it is for some people. That said, a lot of posts like this do not mention budget by the OP, so it's anyones guess.

I never thought I'd write this, or even say it, but it seems some HF stuff seems to be getting better. As HF quality goes up, CM ......... you know the rest

Can't really beat a set of Craftsman screwdrivers if they are just for the car. I personally think they are good/ok some don't care for them, but I can bet almost everyone has one/some.

No fixed budget, but these are rarely used, so $25-30 is the max I'd like to spend.

Lots of good options here, thanks.

Also the HF pro set is warrantied for life.. You can just walk in and exchange no questions asked.. I think between work and home I have 4 sets split over tool boxes and 2 work trucks.

The ONLY downside, is they are pretty cheap looking.. If they had better looking grips and colors there would be no reason to buy another brand.

The upside is they have magnetic tips too..

Oh, this set is for like a trunk or a kitchen catchall drawer?
Spare tire well of my Kia Sportage. There's a tray that I keep tools in. Everything is good except I have a really cheap set of Husky drivers.

As for my wife's kitchen tools, she had a 5 piece Snap-on Indy 500 set in pearl white handles.

Outside the box a bit, but just had a snap on 4 in 1 delivered for 20 bucks... for my kitchen, because steps ****.

Neighbor gave me a stubby and standard size Milwaukee multi-blade screwdriver set for Christmas. I realized my wife never used the tools anyway, so I sold the Snap-on set on eBay for more than I paid for it in 1985-86.

Not a bad idea. I have a Mac Tools 1/4 driver with 4 bits (PH1, PH2, 2 slotted sizes) hidden in a screw off cap in the handle. It is nice to use, and you can change the bits out anytime you want.
