Good label maker for cars/garage

My million year old Dymo label maker died, the kind with the big wheel of letters you spin and then squeeze to emboss the plastic tape/label. Before I blindly buy another, any suggestions for a label maker that creates robust labels worthy of a car/garage environment?

I really like the Brady BMP21 label maker. Many different types of labels and some are chemical resistant. Good for general labels and small diameter wire. Easy to use .

Staples has (with free shipping) the Brother P-Touch PT-d210 on sale for $14.99 and the PT-M95 for $9.99. Neither uses tape wider than 12mm.

I ordered the d210 because it uses the TzE tape, as does my wife’s label maker in the house.

These don’t connect to the computer. The one at my work does, and it is a terrific feature if you are doing a lot of work in one session or have the room to keep the printer on your desk or nearby.

I got one from Home Depot over by the the wire nuts and low volt stuff. Pretty sure it’s P-touch.
I use it a lot and so do my Wife and Son. I should make them buy label tape, that’s stuff adds up $$

I just (finally) picked up a Brother P-Touch D600... usually $100. $49.99 on amazon

The price fluctuates every couple of days, I was watching for a few weeks or so- was going to jump when it was $59. got lucky

Picked up no-name TZe tapes, works great.

Having used both the Brother and the Brady BMP, the Brother wastes 2" of tape on every label that the Brady does not. Of course the Brady's tape costs more...so who's to say where the bargain is.

Have been using a brother for years -- the regular black and white tape holds up very well.

I do oil and rotation based on miles -- so I don't need to track. Everything else gets a label -- lift the hood and I know when anything was done/replaced.

Not in a million years would I use those, except for some quick note taking. The ones that ship to stores here ****! They fade out and are illegible in less time than the next your fart.

Buy the optional power supply for the Brother label maker,otherwise it will eat batteries, not just any power supply will do, as Brother has the Negative in the center contact pin not positive, as most power supplies do....

I have a brother p-touch, not used often but does a great job. the external power adapter would be a good idea but I pull the batteries every time since it doesnt get used often.

The p-touch is my favorite. Get the UV resistant tape type TZe.

It costs more but the letters do not fade over time. Do not get yellow background. Brother states the yellow will fade while white does not and other colors less than yellow.

I'm here. The Brady is my workhorse. My Brother Ptouch is a trusted friend.

Either would serve you well. If you want a serious variety of label choices. And i mean serious... look no further than the Brady. Good investment.

Yup. Pay attention, there are refurb units that get sold too.

As I said above, the amazon price was $49.99 on Feb 25. It was 89.99 two days before. OP should keep watching it, if you are looking...



Also, mine came with the AC adapter, no special order, not optional.

I have a brother and it works fine for what I use it for (rarely used).

I do know this: Whoever did the wiring at work and labeled the panel needs their hand writing to be checked. Just scribble, can't even read it. On mine at the shop I made labels that are MUCH easier to read & understand. Legible labeling ought to be NEC if you ask me. Maybe it is; if so those crackheads that did the work didn't do it to code. One is loosely scribbled "fan" (20' diameter ceiling fan) and when I went to weld the other day, welder wouldn't come on. Nothing marked "welder". Turned the fan on, welder came on. Then Saturday we needed the fan. Went over to the controller; nothing. The breaker under the "fan" breaker was the only one off, turned it on, controller lit up and then it worked. That one is not labeled at all. Idiots.

I have a Dymo Rhino 4200. Can take up to 3/4” wide label. It also prints sideways for wire labels. The only thing it wouldn’t stick to is the black plastic Dewalt hardware case I have. They’ve stuck well on everything else.

The Brady has nylon cloth labels. Sticks to backpacks and textured blow molded cases. It was one reason I went with Brady.

I use a Brother P-Touch with the extra strength adhesive. Works good for almost everything. My other go-to for labels is white Gorilla tape and an industrial Sharpie.

I use this Dymo Label Manager 280. Biggest selling point for me was that it can plug into my laptop and I can type labels up on a standard keyboard. Big time saver especially when labeling fractional bolt bins and you need to use the / symbol a lot.

I was in one of the local electrical supply places a couple years ago and spotted this: Brother PTE110 Industrial Handheld Labeling Tool Kit. I've used it to label all kinds of things, incl. using one of the flexible tapes to tag network cabling. Very happy with it.

Dymo LabelWriter 450 Duo for 'desktop' label printer prints shipping type labels and current era of old Dymo labels in a couple sizes and kinds. For mobile use the Dymo RhinoPro 5000. Had both for quite awhile and like the results except if I peel off a label a layer of the glue and backing like to stay behind requiring cleanup but I find the labels stick way better than the old style Dymoplastic strip. I like the label options in media and color combos.
