I know there are alot of DFW area members on here so I thought I'd ask.

I'm looking at a source for wood besides the big box stores. I seem to be having a hard time just finding a decent lumbar yard. I live on the north side of DFW so something in the Denton/Lewisville area would be nice. Depending on the product I'd be buying everything from pine 2 x 4's to cedar to furniture grade oak. Google can give me addresses but I prefer first hand experience.

hey! Fellow Dallas Guy! I buy most of my pine stuff at big box stores, and my Exotic Stuff at Brazos's in Grand Prairie!

For the best pricing and service got to Central Hardwoods. They are near 35E and 635. They sell all of the normal hardwoods ... not exotics. I used to order 2-300 BF and less and they would deliver to my home for free. Great folks to work with and really good prices... Brazos is a good alternative but they would not deliver to a residence so that was a deal breaker for me. I did use Brazos for exotics and picked them up.

You will be VERY happy with Central Hardwood

I've had good luck at Barney Robinson's Hardwoods on Lancaster in Fort Worth. Good selection and reasonable prices. Much of what they have is sanded on three sides with one rough side. Good Luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. With several projects for the house and garage coming up, this will be very handy. I'll try to check some of them out this weekend if possible.

Dang it looks like most of these places are just open Mon-Fri till about 5. I understand why but it makes it a little tough on a weekend DIY guy who works 8-5 during the week to look around.

To the OP, boy do I understand your frustration !

I wanted some rough sawn cedar to make a fence, because the quality of the "fence panels" ***** at HD and Lowes. I had to drive over 20 miles (one way) to find an "old fashion" lumber yard (Mans Lumber, Canton). They even took 1x6x10' boards and cut them in half, NO CHARGE !

I know I passed 6-8 "big box" stores, but now I know where to go !

I checked out a neat little place in south Dallas a week or so ago. They tear down old houses and sell the reclaimed stuff at what seemed to me to be reasonable prices. They deal primarily with hardwood flooring but have stacks and stacks of lumber out in their yard, too.
