Good Morning, at least I'll be 50% right.

I use Downwindtracker2 as my nom de plume. The first time I booked on a forum ,it was a hunting one. Everybody used names like 300Magnum., so being a contrary sort I remembered the name that the author Paul St.Pierre used in his columns in the Vancouver Sun newspaper in the '60s about his adventures ,(mis) Downwindtracker. I take it to mean man of foolish pursuits. I thought that was pretty clever, so used it with a 2.

I'm a retired millwright, so no stranger to wrenches. My hobbies include wood working, hunting, fishing, boating, camping, travelling. But these hobbies all come their own activities that others would call hobbies. For hunting, it's reloading and gunsmithing. With woodworking I've bought machinery that rates vintage, I'm old enough that they seems modern to me. So it's rebuild, repair or restore. Since I'm a millwright , it's also modify, things can usually made to work better. To back this up, I have a MIG welder, a TIG/Stick welder, a 12x24 metal lathe, mill/drill, power hacksaw, metal bandsaw, surface grinder and a metal shaper. None of these machine tools are industrial, the heaviest is mere 1000#. The only new tools I've bought have been the table saw, the drill press and the two welders, everything else has needed some luv, sometimes minor, some times major.

When I was a poor apprentice carpenter, I changed trades, I would look on fine tools with blind raging lust. A Sandvik #280 handsaw cost $45, that was three weeks social fund. Now at the fleamarket I found them for $5.I love fleamarkets.

Welcome to the GJ.

Would you please update your location in your profile. In future you may find that helps you when you have specific questions that affect you. Specially given the forum has a very global membership. Often you will find subjects may get different answers depending on locations and regulations.

BC would be OK.
