Good porta power?

Who makes a good porta power. I have the worst luck with them ive tried Mac, Snap on , otc , blackhawk , napa and other various. Ive broke or wore them all out. I will gladly spend the money on something with some quality. Ive looked into enerpac and spx which look nice but dont want to spend 4 grand on something without ever seeing one or heard of one.

I have a Porter-Ferguson kit that is probably 40 years old that works great. They are quite expensive though.

Enerpac, I,m a union ironworker and do a lot bridge work and use them all the time. Believe me they take a real beating.

Another vote for Enerpac. We put them through hell at work and they hold up very well.

I picked up an almost new Porter-Ferguson porta power at a swap meet several months ago for $150. It had about 11 pieces and was a porta power I wished that I could afford about 40 years ago. The guy was trying to sell it for $200, it was late in the afternoon and I offered him all the cash that I had and he took it.

I repair Enerpac, Power Team (SPX), Simplex, Hi Force and several other brands.
In my opinion Power Team is the way to go, specially if you are hard on the equipment. (their more cost effective to repair)

Enerpac is awesome; almost all of the porta powers we have at work are made by them. Just be aware, while they still make a lot of their stuff in the US, their cheaper products are china. Grainger is pretty accurate with the COO on their Enerpac catalog.

What conditions or what type of jobs do you do? I am assuming it's something industrial and out in the "field."

I have worked for a rental yard for 9 years and we have had enerpac for at least twenty in our fleet and for shop use. They are as tough as nails, can be rebuilt, and parts are readily available. We have some that are so old the have a funky plum paint job. They have not made those kind in years.

They will all scuff to some extent. The rods can rub against the gland nut when they are going in and out under load.

Which pump you would choose ?

SPX P59L or Enerpac P-392 ?

Or:

SPX P19L vs. Enerpac P-142 ?

My preference is for the P59L. More capacity than the P19L but it all comes down to the application.
I don`t like the Enerpac plastic construction.

OTC has a USA made set that is more than twice as much as their cheaper set.. this made by spx ? Are they any good ?

Guys carry them by the hose , drop them , get banged around on the beams , fitting banged up. It's a rough environment . But it's the nature of the business.

I'm guessing you are in a industrial type of enviroment because I have had good luck with 4 and 10 ton models from OTC and Blackhawk for bodyshop use. I also dont imagine you are in a bodyshop environment because every shop I know of provides portal powers and other similar equipment for their techs.

I work on garbage trucks Im not rough on them in any means. They just always seem to leak or check valves stick just want something good and be done with it. This is something im shopping for the company. I don't provide it. Im just lucky the owner doesn't like to cheap out on stuff he would rather buy it once and be done with it too.

You can get Enerpac through Snap On Industrial. You have to find and Industrial representative.
