I'm looking at getting this vice. They're asking $125. Does anybody know anything about these vices? Is this vice worth what they're asking?

i think new they are maybe $70 at Harbor Freight. i think they still sell that brand and in any case I've passed on them for $40 because they are cheaply made Asian imported vise. my 2 cents.

not sure where you are located, but i just listed a few of my old US vises in the classified section that are made to last another 50-100 years if you might like one or enjoy the search for one in your own area. you can PM (send a private message) to me if you have any questions or just post them here.

by the way i see you are a new member so welcome to Garage Journal and i hope you stick around to learn and share what you know. also you don't need to buy a vise from me, but i just happened to have a couple i'm not using that could use a good home.

good luck

Read the "Vises of Garage Journal" and you'll know a lot more...

That would be a solid pass. Like the other guys said it is a chincom vise.
Keep looking and don't be in a hurry to buy a vise. Read the vise thread and you will get a ton of good info.
Welcome aboard.

Alright. Thanks guys. I did offer them $40 because I thought they were just a cheap import but they argued I was wrong and it was an awesome vise. So I did pass, but I just wanted to double check.

good idea to check. just try to be patient, and something good will come of it! :) you probably dodged a bullet they didn't take the $40. that's $40 more you have to spend on a quality vise when you find the right one for you.

True at $125. You said you offered $40. That's what I'd do as well. And for $40 it's a big *** vise that you can weld on and spray paint on and all that happy horseshit and not "care" (as much) as you would on a very nice-pride and joy-old school USA vise.

I have great vises, but I pick up imports at yard sales for 10/15 bux and down just to mount around the property on outside work benches. Who cares if it rains on them type of thing.

You familiar with the term " American and proud" ? The Chinese, not so much. If you are looking at American iron, it will say so boldly on the side. Import stuff is just manufactured as fast as possible with quality being not in the top three criteria of production

Every reply is different and they all are informative. Its great to know that someone who might not be in the "vise circle" can be steered straight by all your excellent replies. That's one of the reasons this forum is great I think.
