Hi all-

I noticed the other day that all of the Wera stuff at tooldiscounter.com, about 50 different items, are at quite good prices.

Examples:

Tool-Check Plus (metric) 5056490001
- Amazon $83
- ToolDiscounter $67

6-Piece LaserTip Screwdriver Set 5105650001
- Amazon $34
- Zoro $29
- ToolDiscounter $24

(Other screwdriver sets are also at priced very well: $24 for 1000V insulated, $33 for demolition "chiseldrivers".)

9-Piece Metric Allen Wrench Set 5022086001
- Amazon $32
- ToolDiscounter $9

(The other allen wrenches, the 9-piece and 13-piece imperial sets, are also very well-priced, $10 and $17 respectively.)

This doesn't seem to be advertised as a sale, it's just really nice pricing on stuff that rarely goes on sale. If they keep these prices *and* do a black friday coupon code, the value will be pretty unbeatable.

(I initially made these replies from my old account, which I thought I had lost access to...sorry for any confusion. I deleted them, and now I'm recreating them from my active account. I should look into whether I can "close" that account formally, since apparently I still have access to it.)

I looked but couldn't find the shipping cost at Tool Discounter. Anyone know?
Flat rate $12 to my address, on over $250 of these Wera hand tools.

The Tool-Check item is great to keep in the glove compartment.
Indeed! Or carry in a backpack…great gift for a student who uses hand tool.

I meant to mention: tooldiscounter isn’t as big and famous as Amazon, Zoro, Acme, etc., but they’re an excellent company. They’ve gone out of their way to address issues for me, a small hobbyist customer, and they’ve absolutely won my loyalty. I’m glad to see competitive prices there and be able to steer some of my holiday shopping budget to them.

While I’m plugging them…they’re also good for professional mechanics tools like the excellent torque wrenches from Precision Instruments.

Pre-COVID I ordered a Precision Instruments torque wrench from them. The wrench was listed as "in stock" but the whole thing took longer than I expected so I emailed them and it bounced. Not good. I didn't think much of it because of other reviews on GJ and eventually got the wrench.

This year I ordered another one, same deal. It was taking longer than their estimated 8 weeks, so I emailed. No response. I called and nobody picked up. After about five months I called my credit card company and initiated a chargeback and finally got a response that my order was cancelled.

I was actually looking at those Wera screwdrivers a couple days ago. Zoro's backordered but tooldiscounter has them listed as in stock (ha ha ha). They've decent prices but piss poor communication and no real inventory management. Not worth the savings.

Blarf- Sadly, I ordered my torque wrench from Amazon for same price and got it the next day!

Update!

I just spoke with a rep at ToolDiscounter, and I can confirm a few things.

Inventory Transparency / Slow Shipping

Above, user "blarf" reported long shipping times, even when the item was listed as in stock, but still took a while to ship. A number of the items above, with the great prices, are described as "in stock" on the ToolDiscounter, but to satisfy my order, they're being sourced from a Wera distribution center or somesuch, on demand, and subject to delays upstream.

They should probably change the language on their webpage, but for these smaller companies, changing how the website works may be a big lift. Personally, I'd rather they just focus on what they do well: managing relationships with tool manufacturers, and answering the phone when I call.

The Aggressive Pricing of Wera Products is Deliberate

I mentioned to the rep that their pricing on the Tool-Check is the best anywhere online, and they basically said "yeah, we know! It works for us, and we're not changing it."

Bottom line, if you're restocking quality stuff and you're not in a huge hurry to get it fulfilled, ToolDiscounter will save you some money.

Internally, they seem to have a pretty good handle on their stocks, so if you're looking to order something that you need urgently, the best thing to do is probably to call.
