Felco for me, I work on a farm and use mine most days. I've also had Corona, Bahco, and the full spread of cheap ones and IMO nothing beats the Felco.

Felco is to the nursery industry like Fluke is to the electronics industry. They set the standard that others try (and some do) to meet.

We went through a bunch of Chinese sets and finally I got the wife a set of Felco's. I can tell she loves them because she always keeps them clean and puts them away when she is done. ;)

Felco fan here. I just bought some pruners and carbon fiber handled loppers. Amazing quality. The loppers were about $55 at felcostore.com. How can they sell a product that is built with the quality of Victorinox knives, uses forged aluminum alloy parts, and carbon fiber handles for that price?!?

For handheld pruners, I like my Felcos too, but only because ANY replacement parts are so readily available. Note that the standard Felco (#2, I believe) has a riveted blade. You need to set new rivets when you replace it. There is an almost identical model in which the blade screws in.

One brand I haven't seen mentioned, that is Stihl. They make all sorts of pruners too, and all carry a lifetime warranty. I don't have any handheld size ones, but I have the seven foot long PP-100:

Because of the leverage within the mechanism, you can really cut some serious branches with these.

But, when it comes to roses, these are my absolute favorites:

Probably not so good for a florist, but I prune my roses outside, and this lets me reach anything, without worrying about thorns.

Cutco Scissors

Made in USA, guaranteed forever !

I have to agree with you, but the price is staggering.

IMHO, most of Cutco's products are nice, but not really worth the insane prices they ask. I'm not even sure if I can justify the cost of their scissors, but there are NO other scissors out there that can match them.

The way they come apart for kitchen cleaning is simply awesome, but I'm not sure if that feature is a big selling point for a florist.

I bought them from some kid getting paid to demo Cutco products in the home. They were shocked because almost no one ever bought anything from them once they found out the price !

I don't like the handles on their knives. I have Chicago Cutlery in the kitchen. Certainly not "the best", but they do the job for me at a reasonable price (Chicago Cutlery has some nice scissors, but they don't compare with Cutco !)

We use them to cut up chicken and salmon. Easy to wash !

I strongly disagree. These things are Chinese (now) and they ****. If you are "off camber" and hold them at anything other than straight on, the blades flex and don't cut. Can't even cut leaves any more, and yes, the pivot is tight. Highly disappointing, I grew up using Fiskars and they were the best. Time for Felo's.

Well, since someone brought this thread back from the dead...

I'm a hobby gardener. My personal favorite pruners for quality and value are Bahco. The ones I have are made in France and are very nice.

$10 at Harry Epstein.

Also, HE has some nice USA made garden trowels for cheap.
