Good Replacement Nut For Vacuum Grip Pliers?

Just recieved some FSP Vacuum Grip pliers that have had the original nut replaced at some point. I'd like to replace it with something more like the original. I think it's a 7/16" off the top of my head. Do any companies make ones similar to the original?

Here's a couple pictures of some hose clamp pliers I recently picked up. The pictures are kind of dark but hopefully you can see the nut and how it's shaped. I think the best thing would be to find someone who can make you one on a lathe, or maybe take an off the shelf nut and turn it down to the required shape.

Yeah, that's the same one that was originally on them i think. Found this on Alloy Artifacts showing how they look originally. Nice pliers you got there btw.

I thought all old pliers had that style of nut.

yeah... pretty much.... problem is most of them were staked on and removing them from an old beat up cheapie pair might ****** the threads.... but that might be worth a shot and quite likely the least expensive way to go... problem, of course, is making sure you've got the right thread diameter and pitch.

How about asking Snap On for a spare part?
Or try and get a nut from Wilde. The nut on my new Wilde 6N Angle Nose Slip Joint Pliers is exactly the same as the ones on my Snap On Vacum Grip ones.
Hope this helps, and should be less trouble than making a new one on a lathe although that ought to be not too difficult for someone who knows how to do it..

I managed to caefully get the nut off and took them apart last night. How would i determine what the thread diameter and pitch to get a replacement nut? I looked over Alloy Artifacts and couldn't find any info.

Good idea...hopefully the guy in the truck has some experience with the older vintage stuff and can point me in the right direction. Hoping the threads haven't been beat from the regular nut that was put on there...i looked it over and it seems ok.

Or, just take it to the hardware store and try it on bolts until you find one that fits.

I might end up going that route. I was gonna try source one of the original looking ones like this...

Should be able to grind one of those in no time at all out of any nut that fits.

I was curious after reading this thread so I grabbed my 1951 vacuum grip pliers and they (surprise, surprise) had a conventional nut on them. They came right apart and the thread on mine seemed to be 1/4-28. I have quite a few Crescent made pliers so I took a pair of Millers Falls (by Crescent) and a pair of Cee Tee (by Crescent) apart and they both had nuts that were the style you are looking for and they are 1/4-28 as well. After successfully installing both nuts, I put my SO pliers back together with the dark nut because I liked the idea of the field repair. If you would like a pair of the Cee Tee pliers with a nut that removes easily, send me a PM.
