Looking for something to pump in ****** fluid, diff fluid, etc. Would like something that is cleanable so I don't have to mix fluids or store a oily pump. I've been using those cheapie ones from the auto parts store, until the last one I bought failed to work.

I got a no name plastic one for less than $20 from Kragen a few years ago. Cleaned it once by pumping a couple of shots of gasoline through it but I am usually just taking fluid out so I do not bother to clean it. It came in a heavy plastic bag and that is how I store it. As long as you can get the dip tube into the fluid it does not matter how the pump is held.

I have a pump that screws into quart oil / trans fluid bottles that I use for gear boxes. I simply pump it dry and then flush it with dawn and water in the shop sink.

Does it leak at all?
Can you take it apart to clean it?
Can you turn it upsidedown?

This looks promising....

No leaking ..
Yes, you can take it apart and clean it ..
I turn it upside down ...

On BMW's, I use it to fill the automatic transmission fluid, since they don't have a filler like American cars ... :)

For stick shifts and differentials, I use the cheap plastic pumps that screw right into the fluid bottle, they work slick and I'm yet to have a problem with one. I keep one in the auto ****** fluid, for my Ranger w/Mazda stick shift, one in the 90W gear oil, and one in the chain saw bar oil. I screw a 10-32 screw in the end to plug it and never have a problem.

So your pumps fit in a quart size container? Or are you using bigger containers?

Yes they do, just depends on which pickup tube you put on the bottom of the pump.

Charles

All the pumps I've ever owned (probably 4-5 diff styles at this point in time) had a large pump assembly, one that wouldn't fit in a quart bottle.

I should qualify myself, the pump fits my AMSOIL quart bottles. These are wide mouth bottles the same as a gallon jug. Here is a pic of my pumps and jugs. The oddball gallon jug has Amsoil in it, I had a bunch of quarts and funneled them into the gallon jug when it was empty.

Also, here is a link to the pump on the CRC website.

That's actually the one that recently didn't work for me.

Got the truck up on the lift.
Drained the fluid.
Opened the new fluid bottle, stick the end of the tube into new bottle (since the whole pump didn't fit into the bottle).
Pump the new fluid into the rear...er...wait....the pump isn't working. $hit. Now what?

I've used the same ones for several years now. As you can see, I bought an extra and haven't needed it. I bought them at Advance Auto Parts. I even used one to pump gritty GoJo hand cleaner from one of the tall bottles, when its pump failed. It worked till the bottle was empty, but I must admit, the grit probably didn't do it any good, since it doesn't work anymore.

You probably had a defective one, buy several and keep them around, for the money its the best deal going.

Nothin wrong with a funnel and a heater hose except for the times that neither will work for ****!:wtf: That is when transfer pumps and the like get very handy, besides, the pumps these guys are talking about, even a poor boy like me can afford.

I can't use that setup on most of the cars I service, except for maybe my Ford axles. All others are too high to accomplish that. For the type of work I do, I need a pump of some kind - gravity ain't gonna cut it.

I feel your pain bmwpower. I have the HF version of the one importtuner linked. It's decent, but DEFINITELY leaks when upside-down. I also had the cheap one Charles linked and overall liked it as much. Both had serious flaws IMHO.
