good set for truck

looking for a good socket set to keep in my truck, preferably under the seat or behind the seat (ram 2500). Reason is im tired of lugging around my snap on sockets, ratchets etc in my road bag, taking a chance of losing or misplacng them. I keep them in my garage box, and rather use them when i do work on my own stuff at home. I want to buy a good 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 set for emergency repairs and whatnot. I was considering Cman, but cant stand the ratchets Doesnt have to be USA made, I would prefer USA, but I just want a set with decent quality sockets and ratchets that can stand up to a little force.

Get a stanley set or something similar (that means CHEAP). It's not hard to find capable tools at very low prices these days. Buying USA is going to be expensive and counter-intuitive. You can expect to lose and abuse this stuff. Who cares if its a piece that cost you less than a dollar.

I won that set in a raffle and kept it behind the seat in my reg cab ford ranger for years. It fit perfect and had enough stuff to get outta most pickles. Just gotta toss some pliers and an adjustable somewhere else in the truck to be good to go.

I have a pretty decent stanley 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 kit for the truck/house, I think it was around $70 at walmart. I am actually impressed with the quality for the money. The components aren't on par with my SO stuff at the shop, but they have held up as well as the craftsman stuff that disappeared over the years, for a fraction of the price. Also the ratchets are more comfortable and work better for me than any CM rp I've hadthe misfortune of using.

On the work you do on the side of the road subject, you can often limit the number of tools you need. My truck has 13/16" lug nuts on the wheels, so I have 13/16" nuts on both my trailers (simple hub swap on one of them). To drop my spare I cut down the crank that came with the truck and welded a 13/16" lug but on the end. I've got a screw jack onto which I welded a 13/16" lug nut. There are a few others, but you get the idea. For any situation I'm likely to get into on the side of the road I have a 1/2" ratchet and a 13/16" socket, and when I know I'm going to need tools, like an onsite job or a long trip, I bring a toolbox.

May not apply to your situation, but it works for me.

Walmart sells Fuller tools that honestly haven't let me down yet. I bought my socket set I think in 2004 from them, and the 90? piece kit is still 98% complete other then my buddy losing the 10mm 1/4" drive socket, and of course the 3/8" to 1/4" reducer broke and has been replaced. I've used them very hard on a regular basis, and I can't honestly complain about them even a bit. I've left them covered in mud/grass/grease/fuel/antifreeze for weeks, usually clean the whole kit & case once or twice a year. I've taken the ratchets apart 2-3 times to clean them all out and re-grease them, and they are still my go to because they are so convenient. I've since replaced them with a full set that stays in my toolbox, but if I go offroading or for a longer then usual drive the Fuller set comes with me because it's good enough to fix anything I would bother trying on the side of a road. Also should mention thats 9 years of wrenching in PEI Canada which is as rusty in the rust belt that you'll ever get, I've hung off the 3/8" ratchet with more extensions that you can shake a stick at and it just laughs. I thought when I replaced them I wouldn't use them anymore but I cleaned them up shiny and once again they are my go to's

I too vote SK.
I keep a SK 3/8" set in my truck all the time then at a 1/2" if I am going on a long trip or towing a trailer.

Anyone have experience with the HF 67995 set?

Seemed OK based on write up in TFH mag. I currently carry a mix of Cman and Kobalt all loose on rails in bag, but would like to get set in its own carrier. Will probably pick up the Kobalt set from the article around Father's Day.

Just get a Stanley set from Walmart. Most break downs will let you limp home to your nicer tools. And hell, they have lifetime replacement unless you get pissed and Chuck the broken tool over the guard rail.

I got a channel lock set that is very slim (like 4" and roughly 1.5 by 1.5 feet) Has most everything you need as far as sockets and such, and I think it was on sale around for like $70

Can probably pick up a "set" soon during the fathers day sales. Sadly these days I might actually lean towards Kobalt. With so much of the new craftsman stuff being china made, I don't see the benefit over Kobalt. If you do buy a cman set, may want to check it for COO.

i bought a 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 stanley set from canadian tire for like 60 bucks goes up to 22mm or somewhere around there, have used it many times with no issues, just sits in the trunk 95% of the time but when you need it you need it, dont cheap out too much to where youll wreck the sockets/ ratchet on first use... but dont run out to snap off for a set either
