Good set of screw drivers?

This set has come up many times on scrw driver threads but I will bring it up again. I think it is a great value. Not a complete set but all it needs is a PH 3 and it would be complete enough for me. Missing some nice to have features like a hex bolster or striking cap. But they have quality tips that are magnetic. I would take a magnetic tip over a hex bolster If I had to choose one.
Again for the price they are great. If I lose one I do not care. I have never needed to warranty one but with Lifetime HF warranty it is pretty easy. If you are some one who uses their screw drivers more for prying and scraping that might matter.

I am sorry to hear that. Maybe they have recently cheapened them??. I have 3 or 4 sets that I really like. The Philips have well made and hard tips. I have used them to get out damaged screws that my Cman screw drivers would cam out on. Keep in mind It is HF and they sell a million of them.and some may be junky. If you think there is something wrong with them they will take them back and give you another set. I know for $9.99 it may not be worth your time. just saying.

I would like to try some Icon screwdrivers . But it's definitely not worth my time to warranty some throwaway Pittsburgh screwdrivers.

Zoro has a set of Milwaukee drivers right now for twenty bucks that look intriguing to me. Heavy looking and bolstered. If I was looking and wasn't caring about COO I'd give them a closer look.

I don't have an overall favorite, different styles for different jobs. Wiha SoftFinish HD are a good all around set.

old thread but Throwing in my 2 cents fwiw. I'm partial to Klein and Wera. I've got a few Vessels as well. If I were to do it all again, I'd get the Klein 11-1 impact. Wera insulated drivers, and I'd skip on the Vessels, unless you have a JDM car or you are into bicycles. The impact screwdrivers are overkill and poorly balanced, I'd only get through tangs for beaters, and IMO the Wera through tangs are pretty nice. I've got a few Vessel through tangs and they are heavy duty, but almost too much so. You really only need through tangs for flat heads. The Vessel grips leave something to be desired for me.

Good luck in the quest for the best. It is a highly opinionated. For me I'll stick to Wera#1 and Klein #2 until someone convinces me to try something else. Too cheap for PB swiss and snap-on so maybe thats next.

The Vessel grips leave something to be desired for me.

TBH Vessel offers 10 or 20 different handle designs. Wera offers three, and in most cases only one (they have the wood handle screwdrivers and the ball grip in some limited series, but when talking about Wera, it's always their handle is their most recognized feature...).


Even in tang thru flavour, vessel has the ball grip, the super-cushion, the megadora (tang thru, chisel and impacta style), a tang thru ball impact bit driver, the non-slip tang thru driver, the power grip (super heavy duty), the "Powerful Tang-Thru Screwdriver" wood handle, the standard "Wooden Handle Tang-Thru Screwdriver", the "SPLIT Handle Heavy-Duty Screwdriver", and "Wood-Compo Tang-Thru Screwdriver".

That's just the tang thru versions of the handle. Every one is different. For normal non-tang-thru screwdrivers they offer even more options.

My Toptul set is my best set. They come with the striking plate (often called demolition screw drivers) which comes in very handy. As Logical says, Different tools for different jobs.

How many times do you use a flat blade screw driver as a pry bar? A chisel? A scraper? For me, I probably use them for other purposes 50% of the time. The robustness built into drivers having a striking plate is real value added feature.

About 5 years ago I bought a cheap set of demolition drivers at a discount store. Not to use so much as screw drivers but to put in my travel bag and to use with a hammer if needed. Again, so cheap if I loose them, I don't care. They have come in handy.

Not gonna lie…almost never. I have tools for that.

I have settled on Wera Kraftform and Tekton Hard Handle screwdrivers as my favorites. They aren’t the best out there, but I like them.

Sure, I get it, It depends on the kind of work you do. I do it all of the time. I don't want to walk back in to the Garage to get something a bit better when the handy screw driver does the job in 5 seconds. Plus, I do not want to carry loads of tool in my van. I keep multi bit screw drivers and demolition screw drivers in my travel bag so I can travel lighter.

Vessel actually make a specific, screwdriver shape, chisel / scraper.

I’ve got one of these and it’s awesome.

This and an 8 inch Snap On pry bar pretty much preserve my flat blade screwdrivers.

the ball-grips are a game changers, IMHO.
got him those "tang through" models because he IS one of those guys who will take a 5-pound hammer to a screwdriver if that's what it takes to get something un-stuck.

I like their 60140 7-S model for a tool bag 'beater' slotted screwdriver. Rarely does it get used as an actual screwdriver though.

The Icons are very nice and I've really enjoyed them, but for the money the Doyle Heavy Duty set is pretty great. Got a set for the eldest spawn's 1st apt. set and was pretty amazed at how nice they were for half the money of the Icons.

I have examples of almost all the ones mentioned here with the exception of PB Swiss. All from garage and estate sales. None of them wear as well as Snap-on and Williams. However, I have on occasion broken the extra hard tips of these. Easy replacement under warranty but it might be frustrating if you don't have a backup available.

I had a set of older craftsmen screw drivers a few of them were the black “professional” line from years back. Had them at my parents place while I was moving and someone doing some work at their place decided they wanted them along with a few other tools…

They weren’t the best but they were good. What’s a decent brand I should be looking at to replace them with that’s fairly budget friendly? I tinker with Japanese dirt bikes and typical projects.

They are the drivers with the square, transparent red handles.

I like these too, and have quite a few. One of the best handles Wiha ever made, but yes, sadly discontinued.

Thank you! I have some red non transparent WIHA Torx ones I have had for over 20 years but, indeed those look very nice. They actually remind me of some Vessel with that red transparent handle.
