Good source for an air tank?

Anyone have any experience buying a new air receiver tank? I am looking at a used Curtis compressor on Craigslist and the price is really good. The problem is that the tank has a rust hole in it so I know I will need a new tank. I checked out Grainger, but their tanks are over a $1000. This is for a home shop so I’m not looking to spend quite that much. I saw this place and the price seems reasonable.

They meet ASME requirements. The pressure rating is 200psi and I only plan on keeping the tank at 150. Is that enough of a safety margin? I may get killed in shipping. I haven’t called to find out what that will run for a 60gal. Any comments or recommendations? Any other suppliers to look at?

Thanks!

I bought a new/crated Atlas Copco 120 gal receiver tank on ebay for $85. Can't get around shipping though, might find a close seller on ebay.

IMHO the only viable option is to find a good used tank via Craigslist or the classified ads in your local newspaper. All of the new tanks I have seen cost as much as a whole compressor from Lowes, the Home Depot, or Harbor Freight.

Any air compressor supply/repair shop would have them. In my case, I got a slightly used, re-certified tank for a very good price that way. The tank was upgraded by the prior owner who needed a bigger one, when I got it I got one for a small faction of a new one, and it looked almost new...

i was at lowes yesterday and they have 60 and 80 gallon compressors for under 800

That’s my dilemma. Do I get a better build older one with more CFMs or a new one with a warranty. Still trying to decide.

how big a tank are you looking for? at harbor freight they have a portable tank for around $50.

Most likely a 60 or 80 gal. I am going to put this in my basement then run black pipe to the two car attached garage. I don't think on o the HF portables will be big enough. I use mostly a impact gun, but I may add a sand blaster for small pieces.

Great idea. I didn’t even know these shops existed. I just found one a few miles away. I think I will give them a call on Monday. Thanks!

You could also keep an eye on Craigslist as mentioned. You may not find it immediately. But it's a good source for a lot of odd things. I found a brand new looking 25gal for $20.

hi.
I go to truck wreakers and buy air brake tanks for 25 bucks each for air dryer on compessors.

U can put 2 in tandem like the bostitch nailer compressors.
