When I bought the Mayhew Dominator set they said Made in the USA on the package. Are the handles really Taiwanese? Doesn't really matter to me cause they were indestructible at work so I bought a set for the house for a great price from the tool guy. Just curious.

Buy the cman pros nice and cheap
Love my mac ones - don't know what I paid for them though. In between snap on and c"mans I guess. Like the handles, and they are very beefy. I also have a set of snappy's multy use pry bars. They have the straight ends on them, these are the cats ***! Love these pry bars. Expensive, but what the hell!

they are mostly fine, i just find it ironic they, matco, mac, cornwell, and otc "cant find anyone in the usa to make a plastic handle (for most any tool)" yet the king of offshoring, sears, can find one made in the usa, more comfortable, and cheaper. All while jamming it onto a mayhew prying shank.

never really looked if usa but my macs are durable! nice textured handle so wont slip if greasy. bought the 4? piece set i think lol and lost 1 or bought the 3 piece set but either way got the 42" for free!!! i wanna up grade to snap-ons but why mess with a good thing that still work great! wanna say was $160 for set

OTC has a set of 6 for under $100. It goes up to 36" which seems like a pretty good deal to me.

Craftsman Pro's all the way.
The Craftsman hard handled 3 piece set is best IMO. Got the set for $19.99 on sale.

I love my Craftsman Pros. I paid full retail, and haven't regretted it for a second. At the speed sears is running down the toilet, I'd buy soon. I have to wonder if the recent sale on them, was to make room for a shipment of made in China replacements....

the mayhew set comes with the 7" and 31". The 7" types are very handy.
thes ame 5pc set (except usa handles) is still available in cman pro brand, but only through industrial retailers. zoro tools and grainger.

Ah, the one place I didn't look. I agree on finding a US place to make a handle. If they would spend a few extra cents per handle they could have Proudly Made in the USA on the box without the whole global parts deal. I think that would be worth it.
Although...the handles have held up perfectly at work. They are well made.

I'm 99.9% sure my packaging also said Proudly Made in the USA. After reading your post it got me curious. I have 7 total: 8", 12", 16", 24", 36", 42" & 56".
The 8", 12" and 16" have no COO markings on the handles at all. The 24", 36, 42" & 56" all have Molded in Taiwan stamped around the bolster.
Now here is the twist...
I also have a second 12" I bought last year from the tool man at work as a single. I bought it to use during my ball-joint replacement on my 4wheeler. The one that came in the set has no markings but the one I bought as a single, that had also come in a set that he broke up, has Molded in Taiwan around the bolster. Both shafts are stamped USA. There is also a difference in the flaring of the tips. The pictures don't show it well but the flaring on the unmarked one starts about 1/4" farther back and is less pronounced.
Doesn't really matter to me either way cause I know they are tough as nails from experience. Just found it odd.

Is there a good time of year to buy the Mayhew 5pc set? I'm looking at grabbing a set via Amazon (I do love that they have expanded their overseas shipping to tools! 'effin' LOVE IT!). Difference in shipping for these is about $5, I have no pry bars, serendipity really!
But of course, if I can get them at an awesome price elsewhere.
Actually, while I'm at it, there is another set by Mayhew, being the 66302 4pc Cats Paw Pry Bar Set - apparently US made, but what is this Cat's Paw stuff? Is it a straight tip rather than the curved tips of other pars? I only seem to find pics of them facing up...
But of course, if I can get them at an awesome price elsewhere.

I actually still have some of a Cats Paw set left at work. I got them before I got the Dominators. I broke 2 of the Cats Paw bars shortly after getting them. We use those 2 sizes to pull screens out of screen decks. They seemed more brittle to me compared to other prybars I've used. Prybars should flex a little bit but these had no flex at all. Tips are curved by the way.
The tool guy replaced the broken ones with Dominators when I gave them back to him. Those have been doing the same job for several years now without a hitch.
Just some of my observations from an industrial environment...

Hard to go wrong with a Snap-On product.Hurts to pay up for them but time and time again they prove to be the best.
