Good stubby wrenches??

I was working on our air dryer on our 9900i the other day and ending up I needed to have a stubby wrench... with none in my tool box! i just got a set of protos and i love the quality of them, ugly but they do the job. am i right in saying that proto does not offer a stubby 12pt combination wrench set? so what are your guys opinion on good stubbies?

I've got Craftsman stubby's that were made in USA and not the new "lobster claws" and I love em, they work great. There are quite a few sets on ebay of the older ones.

I have the 10 year old USA Craftsman sets too- both metric and SAE. They are excellent quality and nice chrome. I use them for work all the time and love them.

I second the Craftsman raised panel USA made ones if you can find a complete 11 piece set. I just completed mine, someone had a new 11 piece set on ebay for $48.95 shipped. Jumped on it after it was only listed for 3 hours. Most sets are $60-80 on ebay new or used. But they are 100% better than the Chinese **** Craftsman is pushing now.

out of the three that travis posted are the middle ones the best??? they appear to have the little older look to them.

Many would just recommend any that look good and priced cheap. Because they are stubbys they are not used in high torque applications so its unlikely that even the cheaper ones will blow out.
Northern Industrial makes good wrenches at a good price.
Williams older USA ones are nice, and have the Proto wrench look.

I would run to the store or dig thru a few things and find a wrench to bend up/cut off for the time I needed it. If I absolutely thought I couldnt live without a set the Northern look great.

Just get cheaply ones. There is really no reason to get 'good ones' stubby are ment for access, not strength

I know no one has replied to this thread in a while but its just what I was thinking about and didn't want to start a new similar post. Someone mentioned ratcheting stubbies, I have both metric and standard in gearwrench but often times can't use them because of clearance, like when an open jaw wrench won't fit but the boxed in will, seems like every PTO. I thought about just going cheap too but all the cheap sets skip and I wonder if they might be too thick when it is really close. Has anyone here tried Sunex's sets?

I have the sunex set they do the job and the price was right. No skipped sizes in 10 - 19 if i remember right i paid 20 with tax.

i bought husky stubby set at home depot and called it good. I wouldnt go expensive on a stubby set.

I have the same set and I love them. I'd rather put the extra money into my long pattern wrenches. The Husky wrenches have never let me down and there was a time I was using them daily.

I have metric and standard Husky from about seven years ago. They came in nice trays..nice full polish finish that holds up well.. durable. I use them everyday on the job, and really like them. Ive abused them in all kinds of ways, even pried against them in tight spots with quite a bit of force on the box ends, and they have been great for me. Im not sure if the newer ones are the same, my local HD has the repackaged ones now without the trays.

I've been waiting to get the Williams Taiwan (Blue Point) SAE & Metric sets through MRO for $20 each. Almost bought the Kobalts, but they aren't on sale anymore.

I have an older CM set that I think is SK made. Current SK looks the same it has been a good set, nice chrome and feel. By feel I mean the shape feels right in your hand. Some tools just feel right.
If i was to buy a new set today I would go with the SK.

I picked up a very cheap set from Home Depot for $6! Is a cheap set 8pc, metric and standard but has nice finish. Cant beat the price

Ive had GW stubbies since they were introduced. They still look and function 100% but i never realized how much i appreciate the offset of the box end until using one without it.

Keep in mind different brand of stubbies will be different lengths. I tend to prefer the shorter ones my self personally. So with that I opted for SK and (older USA made) GW.

Never tried any SO stubbies so I can't comment on them. MAC stubbies are a little bit longer than SK's, this may be more beneficial to others. Craftsman stubbies appear to be a little bit longer also, but I've never really compared them.

I found a Metric Kobalt set on sale for $10 a couple months ago. Definitely happy with them for that price.
