Good time for asphalt work?

My long driveway has been needing some patching due to the trash truck driving and turning around for 20 years - in fact, maybe a repave would be better. I had some bids a number of years ago and the costs were a bit steep - the contractor said it's all based on oil pricing - which at the time was over 100.00 a barrell. Now that it's dropped significantly I'm thinking it might be a good time to get some updated quotes...

Just curious if anyone recently had any asphalt work done? Did you see lower $$?

I literally just left a meeting with one of the asphalt installers that is bidding on my 1500 sq ft driveway. According to him, the usual spring increase he usually sees has not happened. So no reduction in cost of material, but no more either.

He did say work was slow due to COVID...people and businesses are reluctant to spend.

Ayuh,...... I can't tell ya the current price of asphalt, as I got outa the biz last year,....
But,.....
For the 27 years I was in the biz, prices went up when oil went up, but never down when oil prices dropped,.....

Seems like now is as cheap as it's gonna get. Lots of people bailed on spring break and will bail on early summer driving. The Saudis and Russians are dumping cheap oil out of spite, and people just aren't driving.

In the Biz too and have only seen what you are mentioning. Will go up but never down.
