i dont think those are made in usa,

Judging by the price id have to agree. If your going to abuse them and use them under high torque. Buy good quality snap-on. If your only gonna use em for very low torque just buy those or any other brand really. Kobalt , husky, craftsman will all do. But dont complain when u twist one or screw up a fastener.

x2 I love the 1/2 cut as it definitely makes the bit stronger. I work on Jeeps all the time and for some reason Chrysler loved to use torx :wtf: These are about the only ones I haven't snapped or sheared.

You can get the full set for a little bit more on VIM's deals page right now too:
http://www.vimtools.com/store/page7.html
$28 plus shipping. $98.74 list price. That's the set I have and I love it.

AMC loved them as well. I think I was an ace (five killed Torx sockets) trying to remove the rear diff cover on my first CJ (before I discovered the wonders of impact...).

Torx are the worst fasteners ever and the bits ain't much better. I've busted more torx bits then I can count. I bought a set of Husky torx bits at Home Depot and have actually not broken one yet, even using them on the end of an impact gun. But I figure ifu do break one they have a lifetime warranty and there are Home Depots everywhere

I'm the king of stripped threads/fastener heads and I've never had a problem with torx fasteners or my cheap *** craftman torx drivers or bit sockets. Dammit, now that I said something, its going to happen tomorrow!

You can thank MB for those... :)

I personally prefer torx over most fasteners.

Surprised no one mentioned the Wiha set, so I will. The bits are made in Germany and the sockets are made in Taiwan.

Apex bit inserts have been a welcome step up from the cheapies and from the original bits in my SK chrome set. I'll keep buying Apex.

Williams is owned by Snap-on and the Williams and Blue point sockets are all made in Taiwan as far as I can tell my research. I have Snap-on, Craftsman and a full set of SK in all the different drive types. They all work the same. If Craftsman has them buy them. I don't think you will be sorry. If they go bad which I doubt you can get them replaces with ease and they don't cost 4 toes and a thumb. I have the all in the hard green handles form Snap-on and never use them. I have them in the Screwdriver type in Craftsman and they are not the same quality by a long shot. KD makes them and I have a bunch of those cheaper sets and they work very well. They are all one. They are not a bit in a socket. The bit and socket are all one. I have used those for 30 years with out a problem. I would not spend a lot of money.

FYI it says at the bottom of that page that none of those tools will be warrantied.

I had a set of Lisle torx bits when I first started out. Not that great of quality. A few twisted, and one broke off and stuck in a caliper slider bolt. The bits would fall off my extensions/ratchets easily. I bought Snap-On heavy duty bits after using the Lisle bits for a while and have been happy ever since. I have used the Cornwell/VIM bits some before and found those to be good quality also.

Wiha CRM-72 steel is much stronger than S2 steel.

S2 steel doesn't twist, it shatters at high torque.

CRM-72 is a Chrome Vanadium and Molybdenum mixture from what I understand.

As has been mentioned in torx threads before, Lisle makes two sets of torx bits. The more common one-piece ones are junk as we all know. But the better set is supposed to be, well, better. I've not used them but have been very tempted to order a set before. I'm thinking about the Vim's tho...

Wera torx bits, the "heavy duty" version! I think they are one of the strongest! Wurth zebra is strong to! I have use for a couple of days ironside bits on work(with very very low torgue). 2 days=2 bits on proper use and a sneeze of torgue! China junk

I have a second hand set I picked up from this forum. It is a Cromwell set from t8 to t60 and it has been great. The only problem I have has is I bought it with a broken t25 and still have not set it off for warranty.

The ones I use at work are these MAC ones (which apparently are made by VIM?).

http://www.mactools.com/shoponline/...-13-pc-combination-drive-torx-driver-set.aspx

I bought them when they were running a deal where you bought the regular set and you got the stubby torx set for free. So it ended up being around $95 for around 25 torx sockets. I was wary of the quality but I know my MAC dealer is really good with warrantying so I went ahead and bought them. No issues in 4 months or so. Even the most frequently used bits have virtually no signs of wear. They even came with blow molded cases. I can't say how they'll be years from now but I'm happy so far.

Don't buy the Lisle Torx set, snapped the first time I used one.
Shame too because they were reasonably priced and Made in the USA.

I mentioned earlier I have a 13pc Cornwell(vim) set. Zero issues. I also have a USA craftsman set that is about 5 years old and no issues at all. Also have the tamper proof craftsman USA set. No issues. I would look into those if you can find USA made

How the hell have you never stripped out a Torx bolt or broken a Torx bit? I friggin hate those damn things. I've stripped out more Torx bolts and Broken more bits than I can count. Mostly on my Jeep. The guy who decided to use them on Jeeps needs to be taken out back and shot:lol_hitti

I would not say that I have not stripped any but I really like working with wood torx screws especially deck screws.

I use a whia set if I am not using the supplied bits.

I've had the lisle set where all of them with either broke or twisted, the CM that wore quickly and badly and Proto which has worked the best so far, but is by no means a quality set. There is no forgiveness for even the slightess slip, that'll wipe out the end instantly. I've been on the hunt for a while for a high quality set and will check out the Wera. A few years ago, a buddy of mine gave me a no name T60 1/2" drive that I use on dodge driveshafts. That thing is a rockstar and is still in almost perfect shape despite the thousands of times it been used with a impact. I'd give anything to know who made it and where I can get a set.

Just an fyi. Cornwell changed suppliers and alot of their bits are no longer VIM. The new ones ****. My buddy has a set of the new xzn triple squares and he keeps spliting the drive end. With and with out impact use. Just an fyi. If u get ur stuff warrenteed its prob not gonna be the same tool. Corn well is changing alot of their suppliers around. I know they arnt gonna use otc for pullers any more and so on.

I picked up a set of stubby hex bits from the cornwell guy, specifically to remove hubs on a daihatsu rocky. No problems with the sockets however I'm not sure what supplier these are from

According to Cornwell guy I deal with, yes they are changing suppliers concerning otc stuff for their cornwell branded tools but otc stuff will still be available from them. He said Bosch has aquired the otc line and raised the prices

I have broke several Craftsman bits in the past. I have also used Williams, snap on, and Sk and have never had a problem with any of them.
