OK I don't make a move without consulting the crew here.

I need a new set of transfer punches. The set I've been using came from HF and they've been ok...just seem to be too easy to bend. Bent the one I use most today so it's time.

Suggestions are welcome.

Ken,
You can buy them individually from MSC Or a complete set. The cheap import sets that cast around $30 just dont last. The points are usually flat after a couple of uses :( I finally bought a good USA set a few years ago and have not had a lick of problems. I think it was around $100

For homeowner use, the imports really should be ok as long as you use them for the intended purpose, which is to make a mark on some layout die. You dont need to hammer them, just a very light tap should do the job. I certainly cannot imagine bending one, even the smallest. Flattening the tip after a while yes, bending .... :(

Bet he meant bending the tip.

No...he meant it bent about 1 inch from the tip....

BillK...

Where does one find this USA made set you speak of?

EDIT: I think I just found them at Travers...

Thanks...

One inch from the top, you must be beating the **** out of it! Transfer punches are just for making a mark, paint the part you are marking, or use layout fluid. Insert the transfer punch and give it a light tap. Remove the transfer punch, find your mark and then use a regular center punch. I have a set of HF transfer punches and haven't destroyed one yet. I realize they are **** so I treat them with kid gloves, I don't want to have to buy some expense punches for occasional use.

+1

Have various import sets from enco and HF. Layout fluid, a light tap, then a real center punch has met my needs for several years. Same way with the import blind hole transfer screws that I have.
