I bought the 19 - 55 red metal box 3/4 set so I had an axle nut socket on short notice; don't know that I've used it since.

However, in what applications are they usually utilized, apart from mechanics?
Home defense.

On a more serious note, I pick up 3/4" drive tools whenever I find them at yard sales & such, but I haven't used them for their intended purpose yet. I'm only a shadetree. However, the sockets do work great for homemade bushing pullers/installers, seal drivers, etc.

I use a 3/4 socket to measure camber on one nut wheels on race cars. I mount a magnetic camber gauge on the drive end. Place over nut read camber

watch repair and electronics work........

seriously? i use 3/4 and 1 inch for changing truck and tractor tires. adjusting and maintaining the same items. i would guess heavy equipment, railroad, bridge and building construction, mining, shipyards and any other place you see moderate to heavy equipment and structures. seems pretty apparent where they would be used to me.

I use a 40 inch 3/4 drive breaker bar with a 1 1/8 socket for removing axles on semi tractors to prep them for towing. I watch in amazement when I go to the cat equipment dealer and they are using a spline drive gun hooked to a diesel air compressor turning 5 inch plus fasteners.

I have both metric and sae in 3/4 drive, I used to have another complete set of metric that I kept at the press. But some one on here needed a metric set so I sold him my spare set.
