i am looking to get a new pair of vise grips and wanted some suggestions. I do not have huge hands so they need to be relativly easy to handle. I know the adjustment screw is typical on these vise grips but are there other options? I also do not have a huge budget, but wanted something decent. Thanks for your suggestions.

Thanks,
James M

Also New Holland rebrands Grip-On at fraction of price, if you are doing serious work get any of the rebranded Grip-On. If you are casual DIY, just get Vice Grip. There are plenty of NOS Vice Grip out there, go get em!

Thanks everyone, looks like an overwhelming response to Grip-On, so I looked at a few and I found all Stainless look and others Orange, so it's Jaw-Nickel or Jaw- orange Epoxy, does anyone know the difference, or is this just a cosmetic thing?

Thanks again!!

I buy every pair of USA locking pliers I see. Wether they are vise grip, proto, craftsman, husky or whatever. I have some of the new Irwin Chinese pliers and they got rusty in my toolbox before I used them.

Cosmetics. I prefer the nickel plated over enamel.

Facom 500 series, specifically 500, 501, 506, 511, 516, or 505. The 500 and 501 are probably the most useful. Made in France. Incredibly wide jaw opening ability. Sadly they're fairly expensive, but the jaw opening ability may eliminate the need for more than one size of locking pliers. Dolex, Bost, USAG, and SAM Outillage also make or sell similar pliers

Defiantly another vote for Grip-On!

I have the Blue-Point, Snap-on, Proto, and Channellock variations and love them all.

I've never found anything better than the original Vice-Grips, I haven't tried Grip-Ons so I can't comment on them

Completely agree. My father has his originals, I have some old ones from pawn shops, and a pair I bought brand new. Non have failed and all have been put to pretty hard use for a DIY'er. I've clamped them on stripped bolts and then beat them with a hammer, and they're no worse for wear.

NWS and Knipex make nice ones too. Anything but Vise-Grip brand and you'll be alright.

Proto re-brands the Grip-On tools and uses a black epoxy finish. The Grip-On locking pliers are great!

So I am trying to decide between the Grip-on or I also found an NWS in black that looks to be well made. also appears to have some texture as I don't care too much for the real slick tools. Does anyone have any opinion on this one?

Not sure if the above came up as a link, if not copy and paste, any opinions are appreciated.

the NWS locking pliers are also very good, well made, the upper jaw is welded to the body instead of rivited and the thread at the adjustment screw is also welded instead of not joined together at all. German made too....
You might want to contact Ash from german-hand-tools for better pricing.
