Recently moved, basement is empty and I need to build in some sound control between floors. Rockwool was $62-66 bucks Canadian a bag six months ago. Go to look today and it's 90 freaking dollars a bag? That's 50% increase when the "pandemic" supply issues are supposed to be winding down? Anyway my question is are there alternatives for controlling sound through walls & floors? All interior walls / floors, I'm not looking to meet an R value.

At a local cafe today I was told that there was no tomato for my clubhouse. Reason was, they stopped buying them. Tomatoes went from $35 to $90 a box wholesale she said!!

Im guessing that insulation is in the same boat, plus insulation uses a lot of energy to manufacture and those costs have gone through the roof.

Not sure what to recommend, maybe doubling up on drywall? But that probably wouldnt be any cheaper.

Things are gonna **** for a while I think. And a clubhouse isnt a clubhouse without tomatoes ;)

Wow. I was buying R23 Comfortbatt @ $24 a bundle during Covid. Given that was with HD bulk price and Military Discount but still. Just looked online and its $85 a bundle. Missed the insulation bubble by a year. Built my shop a year prior to the covid wood bubble. Crazy

Need to look at where the money is going. Don't know about insulation. The lumberjacks and forest industry claims they are not making more money, truckers are not doing that well with increased fuel prices, the retailers claim they are not making more money on lumber. So someplace between the woods and the store someone is raking in massive profits! The media tells us that it is supply and demand, shipping bottle necks. Of course the media is owned by the same people who are raking in massive profits!

Could it be the middle men, the large corporations buying up everything in sight? No not possible in the US. Follow the money.

In a news release, Weyerhaeuser reported a $681 million profit in their first quarter, which is a 220 percent increase over last year at the same time. West Fraser had an 81 percent sales increase over last year, bringing in a $9 million profit In the first quarter of 2020, compared to a $665 million profit in the first quarter of 2021.

Interesting. It was never that low here in the last 5 years.

I'm working on insulating these days because it's only inflated from $75 to $90 a bale which is low compared to lumber and plywood.

I know it's gotten a lot hard to find! So maybe that's why?

what is the reasonable price for rockwool nowadays?

homedepot in my region (North TX) doesn't have any rockwool is stock / not orderable online

Lowes has R15 for $81
R23 for $86
they are orderable online, but no local stores have them in stock

when I changed the zip code to west coast, Lowes.com price dropped to ~$50 per bag and plenty of inventory.

Lowes just raised the Rockwool R15 from $58 to $79 in one day (2/24) in Missouri. This stuff has been at $58 for awhile and just when I'm fixin' to buy 40 bags they pull this bs. They also did away with the 15 bag discount. Rockwool blames Lowes but everyone else has the same price. So eff Rockwool! Ended up using fiberglass and some John's Manville Mineral Wool.

Let's bring em down. Stop buying it. Post on their Facebook page and keep bothering Lowes on their reviews and questions. Rockwool does comment on Lowes website and they lied and said they have nothing to do with price increases.

I live a sheltered life, why?
I don't like it because it blocks the cell phone signal. Does great blocking noise though. There could be a hurricane going on outside and you would never know. Except for rain though.
