After what's been a pretty **** last 12 months I finally cracked on a garage upgrade I've wanted to do since we brought the place. Its like a nice present to myself.
Unfortunately the double garage as part of the house is only 5MX5M (17ftx17ft). It was build it the 70's when cars where a lot smaller in Oz. Today's minimum in project type homes is usually 6X6 or 7X7 (luxury!). I cant make it wider and adding some extra on teh front was just going to be more $$$ than I wanted to spend. Still, you have to work with what you have got and maximise the use of space you have (if you have too!).
So, my garage is a big single at best. The thing driving me nuts for years was needing to drive in at angle due to the centre pillar (which I hate). Meant no room on one side to work on the car. No mean feat with an the elco that's currently ongoing a respray.
Sorry to all those that love a centre pillar and 2 doors but I don't!!!- complete PITA when you want to put a car in the centre so you have working room each side in a small garage. Plus the fact that arches are very 70's out here and really date a house. So the centre brick pillar had to go! Future plans include new LED lighting (as opposed to the pathetic lighting in there now) painting it all and maybe doing the floor if I can dig up a bit more budget.
Saturday was a big day when my builder mate and his son came over and we ripped into it. Lucky for us the arches at the from are just a facade, not structural so the demo was easy.
So..... arches be gone!!!
Started with this at 8am saturday morning...
