I'm going to check my home depot tomorrow, says they have 5 in stock. I could use 2 extra sets of good drivers. I like the WF/craftsman pro screwdrivers. I just checked out the protos, they look to be quality, the only thing lacking is a hex on the end of the shaft for a wrench, if you need extra leverage. Very handy for removing door latches that use screws. The Huskys and Cman pros have that, as well as snap-on which I have at work and home. Its a shame, but Sears and the like are going straight down the toilet with these cheap tools, I don't know who is buying them anymore. You can get Harbor Freight for half the price of Sears, Lowes, HD, or any of them. Luckily i'm very set up in the tool department both at work and home and don't need to frequent their stores.

So, did everyone else already know they are replacing the lower-end Husky drivers, too? The new ones are also USA made, though. I hadn't noticed this before.

Here are the old USA made, lower-end Husky drivers. I found this one in the clearance area.

In my store, they were marked down from $7.97 to $4.38 on clearance. I bought the last 5 sets. Score.

Here are the new style. Note the square shaft on this #2 compared to the round-shaft #2 of the old design.

This doesn't seem to be a rebrand of an OEM I recognize. It sure doesn't look like any of the obvious USA made brands. I suppose it could have been ordered at these specs and design from PR, WF, Stanley or someone else, but it sure doesn't look like a simple rebrand of another driver I recognize.

I wonder if Apex could be the OEM, since they're now supplying a lot of the other hand tools?

Anyone recognize this driver design?

They still want $4 per driver at both stores near me. $18 for the set. I'm patient.

They are also clearancing the Stack-On plastic drawer units. $16 down from $19 or so. I offered to take all of them for half the sticker price, and was declined.

Yes, patience will pay off!

The several times I've been successful to negotiate great amount of discounts off the sticker price, has been when I've spoken directly with the store manager, within 15 minutes of the end of their shift.

Tactic is everything.

Go forth and conquer my friend.

Another great option are Wiha textured handles with the strike caps. The grip is great and they look so nice. Almost make you smile when you reach for them. How the hell can they make such a nice screwdriver?

Damn it, I love these screwdrivers. No wonder I couldn't find any in the stores here. I hate hate hate acetate handle screwdrivers, I just can't stand how they feel in my hand. I guess I'll have to keep my eye out for something else. I doubt anything this good in the $20 range.

for whatever reason, i love the handles on a flat head, but not on a phillips. plus the tips on them are usually sub par, IMO. the cman pro and the husky pro do have nice tips though.

my husky and craftsman phillips are usually the last scredriver i grab. they work good for opening up rtv tubes. LOL.

Am I understanding correctly that some of you are finding the 6-piece USA set (sku 542418) for 8 bucks or less? They had two sets at my local store , but only marked down to 16 bucks.

Are they "made in the USA" or do they have some other designation like "assembled in the USA" or "made in the USA with global components"?

I believe I've read several times that they aren't straight-up "made in the USA."

The Masterforce ones at Menards are made in the USA by Pratt-Read.

+1
Craftsman is US made by Western Forge....

Ok, thanks. Making sure I wasn't comparing apples and oranges. I'll wait and hope for another markdown.

I just purchased the 4-piece long driver set. Home Depot Customer Service, told me these are manufactured by Western Forge, but where is the "WF"?

I think Menards has that handle. It works. A big screwdriver set is great but this is the place for shopping deals on extras in the common sizes. Nut drivers and screwdrivers I still buy on occasion, its a wear item and nice to keep a sharp one around and truth be told like different handles on them. I would rather have a pieced together collection, so much easier to use.

The new Husky handles seem to remind me a little of the Stanley Workmaster series of screwdrivers that were produced in the 1970s and 1980s. While they have finger grooves, the overall profile of the handle is triangular. Have no idea who made them for Stanley (perhaps Western Forge?) or how expensive (or cheap) these were when they were available, but the few I have seem to have held up really well over the decades. I tend to pick them up when they show up at garage sales.

Yes, I had also noted the similar shape in another thread. But, it could just be a casual similarity, rather than any indication that Stanley Black & Decker makes them.

The unusual design of the Phillips blade could be a big hint, but I don't know of any other companies that make screwdrivers in the USA with that blade. There could be some that I'm just not familiar with.

Been using the screwdriver I bought last week for a few days now. Works great for the small flathead screws on mortise cylinders. No complaints here.

My stores have new dewalts that look to be better quality than the stanley pictured. 10 piece for 2999. Look more like kleins than stanley to me.

In the past, many were manufactured by Stanley Works. Both of those black & yellow sets recently posted were.

Now, I don't know. They might still make some. Considering how Dewalt is assembling power tools and Bostitch is assembling air tools & compressors here again, maybe?

Dewalt is owned by Stanley Black and Decker, so those are likely just rebranded Sankey drivers. If you look at the blades, it looks like the have the unusual Stanley tip shown in this thread on the Blackhawk drivers and Klein-esque Stanley drivers.

Also, look at the fine print. Many Stanley tools are made in the USA with global materials, not truly "made in the USA."

Yes, the Stanley Branded Drivers are manufactured in the USA (no fine print) and are less then half the price of the Dewalts.
