Goodell Pratt was one of the big names in tools of all kinds. Hard to believe anyone with any interest in tools has never heard of them.
The term is auger bit - Not brace bit.

Here is a pic of a Goodell-Pratt push drill along with one by Miller's Falls and several Blue-Point screwdrivers that hold a screw until you start to turn it.The push drills came with all 8 bits for 75 cents apiece. They are good for drilling soft material such as wood plastic and aluminum;don't work well on steel.
