I've had this weighing a shelf down for a while and decided I'd see what I can find out about it:

No model or patent #s. The lines for the bubbles are wires--just straight wires for the horizontal and beaded for the vertical bubbles. All three bubbles are there and all agree--and the horizontal agrees with my modern levels, meaning my workbench is a sixteenth-bubble off.

The wood appears to be mahogany.

Now, is that dirt that I should clean up, or valuable patina? So far, I've just blown the dust off.

Any info appreciated!

Aw, t'ell with it!

This ain't no valuable vintage tool. It's a beat up, well-used and abused (the back side is cracked and I think those holes gouged in the side are for an attempt to repair the crack with screws) component of someone's tool caddy, and is destined to be a wall-hanger in my shop at work. May as well clean it up some!

I just did the one side to see how I like it. Much nicer, but certainly has "character". I still think the wood is mahogany, but I can't see the signature chatoyance through all the dents, gouges, dings and scratches. I think I'll give the top of it the same treatment land leave the rest alone--out of laziness if nothing else.

After doing some searching, it looks like this must have been an early G-P economy model. The nicer ones have brass trim around the sidelights and this one, the sidelights are crudely cut instead.
