I have been searching youtube and other sites, but a lot of the videos seem to waste my time. I don't figure it out until I have all ready invested time in them. Anyone have some good references for video tutorials? I am essentially a total newbie, so I can deal with the basic videos as well. I am trying to model my shop with all the tools and storage cabinets. I started with the basic dimensions, I am having trouble with adding doors. I either get them on the face of the wall and I can't modify them afterwards or I end up with something totally messed up. I have been playing with the groups, but then it seems like I can't edit a part of the group afterwards. It is confusing to me.

I haven't found a good set of tutorial videos but I learned best by playing with the program. It's essentially drawing an 2d face and then extruding it to a height to make the 3d version and then using midpoints, end points, to mate different surfaces together

I learned watching videos.
The guy's voice in this video sounds like the series I watched the most:

Here's a similar video set: http://www.sketchup.com/learn/videos

Often what I did was watch a video then play with Sketchup as far as I culd go until I got stuck. Then I searched that technique tutorial and went further. Until I got stuck, tutorial, did more. Lather. Rinse. Repeat until I finished the sketch. Then onto the next one and the next new thing that stumped me.

I watched the first four videos in the "Getting Started" section and it got me to the point that I could mock up my basement including cabinets, workbenches, etc. After I mess around with it a bit more I will move on to the next section, but for now I know enough to be dangerous.
