Anyone have a reasonable source for gooseneck LED lights? I have a number of grinders without lighting, have seen a number LED units on Google, most seem like junk, or they cost >$200.

I'm looking for the same thing but got an idea in my head. To get an LED that runs off of 110, you're looking a big money. I have saw a few LED lights in my shop catalogs for cheap, maybe 30 LED's but they run off of (4) AA batteries. I have quite a few adapters laying around that changes the AC to DC. No reason one of those couldn't be wired up and a bracket and arm made to hold it. It wouldn't be a flex arm, but it would have clamps at about three joints. I just need to pick up a light and see what I can come up with.

Maybe 5-6" from about foot away. I have one on my mill-drill and it does a good job for one side only. You would need two to really light it up.

That not the issue, a small laptop power supply or equal, and a cheap IC power regulator would do it, easily buried in my grinder bases. It is the length, strength of the gooseneck light. Bet in 5 years they will be common. Saw a few nice ones, but I will be damned if I lay out a couple hundred for a light worth $25.

The make them for your BBQ. Home Depot or a similar place will have a variety. The one I have both clamps on and has two powerful magnets for mounting. I use it on my cylinder head bench. It was cheap. Under $10.

beautiful but junk.
I bought one.
LEDs are wonderful but so far they combine LEDs with cheap switches and inferior electronics so the whole thing goes into the trash quickly
Good marketing I suppose as you have to keep buying more.

The Ikea lights are great, I have 2 in my kids room for reading lights.
The bases are heavy enough, but the switch is iffy. I would replace it with a hardwired flip switch.

I also have a metal gooseneck version that I installed behind my spot on the couch as a reading light, same basic innards, but a metal gooseneck in a stainless post. It was $30 at Ikea.

Thanks guys, I'll check out a few of the suggestions, battery operation is out as I have 6 grinder alone which need lights.

"LEDs are wonderful but so far they combine LEDs with cheap switches and inferior electronics"... Yep
Ultimately I would like stainless steel flex 24", ..guess I am asking too much without spending more then my Baldors are worth. :)

I like that Ikea one, I have a LED desk lamp (no memorable brand name) I got from Costco maybe two years back. They usually have something similar if not the exact one I got for roughly 15-20. No clip but it's got good light, on a desk I'd say it lights up roughly a full sheet of paper from a foot up.

Flathead Johnny , could you post up a pic of how they light up your mill? I've been toying with the same idea, with my eyes I need ALL the light I can get. Keith

I'd be interested in seeing how they work out also.

On the Gladiators cabinets (2 side by side) I fastened a 12' rope light underneath on the lip. It may be 18"+ above the computer. They aren't a super bright LED but no way you could do any work with just it, and I think there are 300 LED's in it?

I am toying with the idea of a simple USB power adapter for phone chargers and using a USB laptop keyboard light. They are usually 12" long on a flexible stalk and a bright white LED.

I've used them as night lights in hallways and other spots with good results. I'm temped to do something similar for tools.
