"Both the motor and the compressor still work and are in amazing condition for their age, belonged to my family since new."

I'll never understand how family members can sell something like this?

i've seen a couple of those for sale at estate sales for ~$50 - $100. Great to look at, but useless for most anything other than tire inflation and airbrushes. Smaller than you might think looking at the pics.

it's just a tool, not really a family heirloom. why would you expect someone to hold onto something that has no value (sentimental or otherwise)?

Heirloom is all in how survivors see it. A friend did a favor for a family. The grandfather died, having made no provision for his small collection of firearms. The rest of the family hated guns, didn't even want to look in the closet in which they were stored. They gave him a key and told him to take the entire contents of the closet while they were out of the house. Easily $25,000 worth of mint Parker, Holland & Holland, et al.

Really..

One of my most prized possessions is a 1942 DeWalt radial arm saw. It belonged to my grandfather, then my father. They have both passed...

They made things with the saw, with their own hands, things for their home and garage. Now I am doing the same.

Another is a flat nose "Razor-Back" shovel my grandfather had, and gave to me when we bought our first home. Every male member of our family has used that shovel..

If those aren't the definition of a family heirloom / sentimental value.. what is? :dunno:

As for the compressor.. to cool.

Why would you assume that this old tool would have similar sentimental value? I am not saying that nothing holds value... You obviously have a couple things that do, but just because it is old doesn't mean anything.

"just a tool..."

I use my Dad's garden spade when I turn the garden in the spring and his Planet, Jr. to cultivate between the rows. No collector value certainly but I love those tools and think of him whenever I use them. His Pennsylvania Great American reel mower sits in the basement, mostly unused now but I'll never part with it. I hope one of my boys will feel the same.

Simply because the guy states in the Craigs List posting: "belonged to my family since new"

The guy selling it either has no soul... or a drug habit.
