Hello fellow GJ members.
Wanted to share the picture of my HF 56" box.
I walked into a store today with an idea of wanting to buy either 56 or 72 box for my home garage today. After talking to store manager she sold it to me for $550.99. I feel like it was a great deal for what it is. After moving most of my tools into it I am kind of thinking about getting another 56.

I still want one of those, though! what did you have before?

I had craftsman 5 drawer box, another craftsman 3 drawer with snap on KRL-59 top and tools on shelves everywhere in garage. What put me over the edge and made me buy new box was my recent order of pliers which I didn't have space for. Right now my 56 is 85% full and my 5 drawer craftsman is 100% full.
Will be selling craftsman 3 drawer and KRL boxes on CL.

Jesus, that makes sense. How do you define full?

Single stack of tools, or kind of piled up?

The lowest sale price on those is $699 if I'm not mistsken. Why did the manager drop it down to $550? Was it damaged somehow? Or was the manger just feeling generous?

I already have one in my home garage and I'm thinking about adding another one. Any info on how I can get one cheaper would be great. Lol

I've had mine for two years...

And, for the money...

You can't beat it...

That was a "YOU ****" deal, by the way...

All but 1 drawers are single stack/layer. I like to open the drawer and be able to see every single tool in it. I also don't like needing to move a tool in order to get to another tool.
The bottom right drawer is filled up with pullers and large wrenches.

So here is the story...
About two years ago i didn't have much money and bought slightly damaged 44" box for if i remember correctly for something around $300. I brought it home and after only moving some of the tools into it I realized that I can't stand small and shallow drawers, so i took it back.
Ever since than I been thinking about getting bigger box.
So when I received my order of some pliers last week I realized that there is nothing i can do but to get new and bigger box to accommodate my tools.
I browsed CL and inter webs in search for the box. Nothing good came up on CL and throughout my search on internet and GJ I came to conclusion that harbor freight 56 or 72 is the way to go for me.
This morning I went to HF knowing that 44 is on sale for $349 but 56 and 72 weren't on sale. I once again looked 56 and 72 over and walked up to the cashier to ask for manager. When I did so cashier replied to me that he was manager assistent and can probably answer my question. I inquired if he could offer me any kind of discount on their 56 or 72 boxes to which I received "No, they are already on sale and you're saving $800 as is.". I once again asked if I can speak to store manager. Store manager approached me and asked how could she help me. I explained what I was after and if she could offer me any kind of discount on either boxes. After talking her into it she said she can drop the price on 72 by $100, 5 more minutes more into it she agreed to drop the price of 56 down to $700. At this point I was 99% ready to buy it, however...
I told her that if she could make it $700 out the door she could consider it sold. She thought about it for few second and said "Lets do it.".
Here is where it gets interesting! We come to the register, she turns around, looks at me and asks "$550.99, correct?" I was lost for a moment but quickly replied Yes!

I am not exactly sure what went through her head in the 10 seconds that it took us to walk to the register but I wasn't going to ask either. lol

So here is the story of how I got HF 56 for $550.99.

Btw, I apologize for my terrible english!

Damn, Nice deal. I couldn't even get them to drop the price 40 bucks on a dented floor model red cart. 189.99 sale price, 40 less and it would match the old coupon prices.

I looked at both the 56 and the 72 and being I could get the 72 at 999.99 I went with it plus I got the 18in side box, I didn't realize that the side box was not as deep as the 72 was my only disappointment. But I put my pry bar rack on the back of the side box, so I used that space also. I only had 3/8 inch left between my pallet racking. Nice fit.

I'm in sort of the same boat.

I have two Craftsman 26" boxes with top chests. I've outgrown them for a while.

My thoughts are to keep one of the Craftsman sets (gray drawers, much better set... have had it for about 20 years) and sell the other set which is all red and feels like it was hot glued together in Kowloon.

To replace it...probably a 56". I'd hop on the 72", but I wish they would add an extra set of middle casters. Then that raises the question on top chests for it. The 56" has a box, the 72" doesn't. But with that said (and I'm not a tool snob) I can see how the 56" has finish problems with the finish.

Guess the question I always have is how you guys get it delivered?

Go ahead and get the top box for it, you'll love it even more! It adds a lot of storage to the 56, plus it's fun to reorganize your tools. I had the bottom only for a year before getting the top, shouldn't have waited that long. Probably going to add the side box to keep cutting/drilling/sanding stuff in, freeing up space for more tools in the main box. Damn you garage journal

I bought the 56" box this June. My four 26" Craftsman boxes were over flowing and tools were piled on top of each other and on the outside of the boxes too. That 56" box is absolutely great for it's price. It's so nice having everything in it's place and no longer piled up on top of each other. And having the top of the box as a work space is incredibly nice too. My only complaint is that I wish I had bought the 72" box instead as the 56" is full already. :D

LOL, heck of a deal. It seems that the members here that buy one HF box, no matter the size, end up buying at least one more.

I wouldn't mind buying another 56 but my problem is I am running out of space in my two car garage.

I looked at both the 56 and the 72 and being I could get the 72 at 999.99 I went with it plus I got the 18in side box, I didn't realize that the side box was not as deep as the 72 was my only disappointment. Is the hight also different the side cabinet?

Guess the question I always have is how you guys get it delivered?

I used my 94 Toyota pick up truck.

I personally highly dislike top boxes. Cant stand having to look up in order to see whats in the drawer.

I think too many people think they need a second box when in reality they are far from needing one. If they would consolidate and organize better , take tools out of the stupid cheap plastic trays and cases and just plain remove things that don't belong in a toolbox.
Maybe look into a cabinet or something extta

No doubt. I had to laugh at the guy on the last page of the show your tool box thread. He said he needed more space and showed a pic of a drawer with four socket sets on rails in it. Lol.

I guess I must be the odd man out yesterday I had a chance to look over a brand new Montezuma tool box at Menards and at first it looked nice box; but when I took my fingers and touched the sheet metal I found it to be somewhat flimsy so I passed on that brand.

When I looked at the HF models above maybe it was a damaged display model missing parts but it also looked a little flimsy so I passed on both boxes.

Funny thing I found a small Mac box from 1988 it only has slides and the drawers have dividers which ****, but the darn thing was made like a Sherman tank and when I ran my fingers across the sheet metal nothing deflected so that made me happy.

Still that HF box looks like a nice box and I will say you get a you **** award good Job!:rocker:

I would love to see some drawer pics as well. Op, good grab. I picked up one of the 44's last year for 311, and have been pretty happy with it. I would have loved to find a 56 though.
