Was at Detroit Autorama a few years back, talked to a guy who'd just graduated from a trade school that had a display down there. He'd just taken delivery on a Macsimizer 15 drawer base chest and told me he was already in hock to MAC for $70,000. Point is, you guys who wrench for a living are probably on your way to having $65,000 worth of tools, if you're not already there.

The problem here is that you got a bunch of guys that are tighter than bark on a tree - for someone that wants an 'instant' tool collection it might be worth the price.

Where in the world is that cnc grinder sitting? It looks like an operating room. Give me one day with that sucker and I'll break her in properly, there will be grinding dust and coolant flying everywhere

It's not unusual for a deadicated Master technician with 20+ years under his belt to have a 60,000-100,000 dollar investment. When I closed my shop I would venture to say I had well over 100K in just hand tools, diagnostic, air tools specialty tools and boxes. The real investment is the use you get because the resale *****. I'm probably down to about 35K retail right now (8K real value. lol)

He has spent his entire life buying. It isn;t until he really starts selling will he realize that a lot of his stuff is outdated and obsolete. Been there done that, it's a hurtful experiance

He probably has 100k invested but he will never see anywhere close to that....The problem with big accumulations like that are people that are already in the trade have tools and people coming into it don't have the money.....He would probably see more ROI if he split it up but it will still only be fraction of what he originally spent.

What a trip, I'm probably around 5k including boxes, trying to be wise about it, Cman and HF stuff with a good IR or DeWalt/etc. where it counts. I recently got into using power tools more where I could have used elbow grease (and spending more money on said power tools), whether I'm getting tired or lazy, I'm not ashamed. I don't ache and bleed when it's done, and that feels really good in my head as well as my arms and torso. If I'm wrenching because it makes me happy, isn't that the big idea?

I can start to see now using a $250 impact ratchet where a $30 hand ratchet would still get the job done. $60,000 is like two nice (brand new!) cars to me, though! Or thirty of the kind of car I drive just fine with no unusual maintenance. Or two well-restored hot rods. We really need to standardize our car parts. I should know, I sling them all day long.

There was an ad on craigslist here in Houston for a Snap-on Racing box like that, both side cabinets and the hutch, loaded, for $8500. There was also a Solus Pro included. I was going to look at it if it showed again, haven't seen the ad since.
