So last week in Dear Abby, this guy comes home to eat lunch and his lawn mower and gas can were in the back of the pick up truck. After lunch he finds out someone stole his gas can.

So he goes and buys a new gas can and fills it with sugar and tops it off with gas and leaves it in the truck. Somebody steals it too. Later he notices the neighbor's kid and his friends pushing a dead car down the street.

The guy's wife wants him to let on that he sugared the gas and hurt his car.

Well I would tell the wife that next time the husband should use caramel colored KARO syrup instead of sugar. There's no mixing etc.

Also once the kid gets a new long block installed the surprise isn't over. If he doesn't get the gas analyzed, the next block gets toasted too. Oh well. :bounce:

There's nothing worse than a thief.

I have heard the "sugar in the gas tank" many times, so I decided to look for the truth. I don't like gas thieves any more than anyone else. Here is what I found.... You will need to type into the search box..."sugar in the gas tank" to get to the article. I guess that they have a way to disable links. They recommend water if you want to stop the gas thieves because sugar will not dissolve in gasoline. Don't know about the Kero syrup. That is an experiment for another person or day...... I can attest to water stopping an engine, but never had the sugar issue that I know of...

So sugar doesn't dissolve in gas, that hardly closes the issue. What about mixing alcohol and sugar or just water?

How about a quart or so of old oil from your last oil change into a gas can and wait to see which car is smoking?

i have had 1st hand experience with sugar dissolved on water poured into my gas tank. after cleaning the tank, replacing 2 fuel pumps, 3 sets of injectors and a set of lifters i finally got the truck where i could drive if for a year without a problem.

in a similar situation many years ago, things going missing from around the garden, old guy near me dissolved sugar in water then added it to a can of petrol that he left outside.
Local motorcyclist had a lot of problems with his engine soon afterwards.

A quart of oil in a gas tank won't neccesarily hurt the motor, at least not short term, but it will kill millions of mosquitoes for miles with the amount of smoke it produces. Trust me, they won't drive the car for long after it starts smoking.

How do you know what was dissolved in the water? Heck, the water alone could have caused you those problems, with the exception of the lifters. I fail to see how water in the fuel system can effect the lifters which operate in the presence of oil. Sounds more like a leaking head gasket problem to me if the lifters were involved in addition to the fuel issues..

junkman......there were sugar crystals in the tank and injectors, i tasted it and i know it was sugar. the only way it could have gotten to the injectors was is if was dissolved in water. as far as the lifters your guess is as good as mine, all i know is the lifters stuck right after the tank was sugared.

a girlfriends car was parked next to mine that night hers was sugared also.......

I had some OLD OLD gas that was awful. I also had some oil and antifreeze to get rid of. So, just for fun, I bought a new $5 gas can, poured it all in and left it sit in the back of my truck. Sure enough, 2 days later it disappeared in the Wal-Mart parking lot. :lol_hitti I'm betting that guy is still screaming.

I've fixed several GM products here at the dealership from vandals and can attest to the damage sugar does
Duramax injectors are particularily sensitive
One sugar job cost upwards of 6K by the time parts and labour were added up
Although you and I end up paying for it cause most of themar covered under insurance

I didn't make him steal it.:lol_hitti He just learned a valuable lesson.

It's like the fridge I was trying to give away for free. It was left in the garage when I moved here. I put a "free fridge, works fine" sign on it, and it sat for over a week, nobody would take it. So, one afternoon I put a "$50, works great" sign on it, out of curiosity. Sure enough, it was "stolen" a few hours later.:headshake

I've had someone steal petrol from a place i used to work. My friend and i just mixed up a bunch of petrol, diesel, methylated spirits (~80% petrol) and anything else we could find and left it in the same place the petrol was stolen before. Following day there was a dead Audi a quarter mile down the road. Day after that there was no Audi down the road, it was sitting in our yard chained up.

I saw this in the paper, and I loved it. I have a deep hatred of thieves. I only wish that he could have put a bomb in there that would blow up the thief and his whole family.
That's kind of harsh, don't you think? Reminds me of the case where some guy in Florida booby trapped his house, and a robber that was injured during an attempted burglary won the lawsuit.

There are tons of stories like that...guy posts "Warning! House Booby Trapped" signs and a thief breaks in and gets his head blown off by the shotgun wired to the door... thief trips on the kid's skateboard... guy glues razor blades to the bottom of his car stereo... Who knows if they're urban legends or not, but when I'm Ruler of the Know Universe, one of my first laws will be "If you are injured or killed while committing a felony, you or your survivors will not be allowed to sue for damages or any other compensation."

Seems like common sense law to me. That'd take care of things like the guy who sued the cops because he was fleeing in a car, had an accident and ended up paralyzed. He sued the police and won, because they shouldn't have been chasing him! ????
