Sold a DeWalt Drill/Driver that I'd had for 2+ years and worked this into the deal. It has a fairly large bend in it but it's going to hold trash so who cares?

Unique find . . . . that is a keeper !!! Nice score.

It's small enough to be useful and still not too big.

Think it's smaller than 30 gallon barrel as grandpa had those all over the place and they look bigger than yours.

Being longtime Pennzoil user, I'd be curious what vintage you think that is. My guess is 60's or 70's . . . any info on that??

Post up better pic (ie close-up) of the logo and lower portion of barrel.

I've been looking for one.

I even called our local lube guy.

I was gonna give home some cash.

He said he uses so little now takes couple years.

He does go thru tons of oils bottles and was gonna get a days haul but broke down and ordered from r m schaller.

I guess I'm gonna get a generic drum and paint it and put vinyl decals on it.

I know absolutely nothing about it. Woman who I got it from bought it at an auction.

I'll try to get a few better pictures this evening, although my phone takes awful pictures unless the lighting is amazing.

A buddy of mine scored me one like that for $15 a few years ago. It must be pretty new since it had synthetic in it.

Great score! The FIL gave me a pile of the same size cans but a different oil company. I cant remember right now, they are still in the barn waiting for me to pick them up.

I purchased a couple of this size drum from an auction.. Both were Lubriplate brand / Fiske Bros. One of the silver/black contemporary trade mark, the other was a revision older, the red/white/black version. Really cool additions to any garage / shop. My step son ended up with the older one "because it looked cooler than the silver one"....

Nice. I have a 55 gallon VP Fuel barrel I use for general refuse. Works very well and Sams sells liners that fit the can. I built a roller base for mine so I can easily put it where I need it.

Wish I would have snagged some 30 gallon oil barrels from my grandpa's farm back he was running road grader. He went through many Kendall oil barrels that sat horizontal behind chicken house, and had spigot ready to pour oil at any time. Those were the days! ;)

If has weight listed on it, it contained grease, not oil.

^ ^ This. Contained grease.

Talked to my friend who is manager at Cenex and they still use same size today for grease of many different formulations. However, no branding for his stuff as just a product label sticker on plain jane red barrel with white lid.

I see barrels like this at antique shops from time to time for decent prices ($15-50) depending on the logo and the age. My dad just bought a really cool old Vedol oil drum for $60. You dont see much Vedol so the price was a bit higher, and this one was in near perfect condition. He bought it just to display, we both collect this kind of stuff. I have a similar Pennzoil, and an early Gulf drum of the same size.

Was one of those pictures somehow supposed to disprove what I said?

Because the answer to your question is, yes, I'm quite sure. Grease is sold in 120 lb kegs.

I wasn't trying to be a smartass, not sure if you took it as such.

What's left of the sticker says 80-w14 witch I assume once said 80w140. Isn't 80w140 a gear oil, not a grease weight?

We always sold bulk gear oil by the pound.
I have 3 of them that I fill with fuel for my salamander for the winter with a roller stand and a pump in it, they were gear oil kegs. I also have 4 others that were chassis grease kegs, 2 are trash cans, 1 holds oil dry, and the other keeps the mice out of the dog food.

Mine are plain, no fancy lettering.

Picked up the 16gal Pennzoil and Valvoline oil cans a year ago, and been looking for a couple more ever since. They work great for open trash cans and rag cans. Hard to find here for reasonable money. Picked up the 5gal Pennzoil bucket at a flea market before Xmas. Paid more for it, than the drums. What ya gonna do? :dunno:

I'm trying to find a place to store my 2 giant trash cans. They take up too much room in my garage. But they aren't as stylish as yours :)

Not to derail the thread but what do you guys think this 1/2 full keg of grease is worth? Or should I just dump the grease and use the barrel?

^ ^ Move the grease to 5 gallon plastic buckets with lids. That way you can save the Union keg barrel and repair the bottom that's rusting out.

I use this old grease can to hold my beer bottle tops in the garage, one day I might fill it up! Its a an old Total Cardan joint grease can from France, guessing 1950's to 60's from the logo.

I have a Mobil Synthetic 15 gallon in my kitchen for recyclables. Got it for 15.00. It makes me happy every time I empty it.
