Saw this box for sale, paid $40. Not marked Snap-on, but when I looked up the model #, it is a SO box. Explains the quality, which is what made me buy it. Not sure what I'll do with it, but it sure looks cool and useful.

ssdave,

What you have there is a portable tool box; specifically a cantilever chest. These are designed to transport tools between two or more locations.

It's a good design that lends itself to good tool organization and easy transport. The biggest complaints about this design are that it is easy to overfill with tools and the bottom bin can become a jumble of tools that are hard to find and extract.

I can also tell you from personal experience, the practical weight limit (combined chest & tools) is about 30-35 lbs. Beyond this weight limit, the cantilever chest begins to loose both tool organization and portability. Something too keep in mind when choosing what and how many tools to load into the box and how to distribute the tools amongst the five bins.

Good luck and enjoy your new canti-chest :thumbup:

I've had a cantilever box before, my first toolbox was an air force surplus cantilever box, probably made by duplex. As you said, they get heavy quick. I use a KRA21 now where I used to use the the cantilever box for portability; portability is somewhat questionable at the 130 to 150 pounds it weighs.

My Grandpa had a box similar although not S-O and OMG was it heavy. It was all I could do to even lift it 1/2" off the ground as a ~12 yo.
