Proto ratchet came today, just opened it, and its awesome. Super comfortable handle, pawl feels secure but theres still minimal backdrag on the thing. Almost no play in the thing either. Its awesome.

Best 12.95 Ive ever spent.

I have the 3/8" and 1/2" Proto's. Two of the nicest ratchets I have ever held in my hand, including the high dollar truck brands.

I picked up mine on Ebay for 18$ or so and another 3 for shipping. Brand new. This was about a year ago though.

Yup. I have bought two 3/8" drives from him and one 1/2" drive from him. Very fast shipper and excellent packaging.

P.S. What classes you race kartracer? Old WKA guy here ... 100cc Yamaha enduro racer.

Yamaha sr sportsman heavy 4 hole SSX can by Don Grenier/LAD. 06 Margay Limo chassis.

I have thought about switching up to pipe, but I have been pretty happy with this class.

How long ago were you racing?

Last year to run Yamaha lay-down was 1995-96 ... got a 4th & 6th in the Sportsman can class that year at Daytona (Dec. 95), which was the first race & first year for the can class

Margay rider here too. The Freber family of St. Louis were very very good to me for several years. :pimpflash

LAD guys build nice powerplants ... gave me fits plenty of times. I had most of my Yam stuff tuned by Lynn Haddock (Haddock Ltd.) and Kent Laukatis (Laukatis Racing). Very happy with both guys work.

They are a great company to deal with, and Margay's dominate 100cc classes and they are built better than alot of the italian chassis as well.

Which Italian company is building lay down stuff? Or are you referring to sprint chassis?

The reason I ask, is because I am riding a Birel now and it is miles ahead of anything in the 125CC TAG/Rotax Max-style classes in sprints. But as far as road racing, your right, no one builds a nicer lay down chassis than Margay.

I race sprint.

I run a Limo because the class is 360lbs (which is also a tag chassis) its a full 32 chassis. The Brava's are 30/32. Im personally not abig fan of Birel karts. It seems like the components anrt quite as strong as the Margays. I was in a wreck this summer that I definetly thought would have AT LEAST bent a spindle. Nope, knocked the alignment out and ate up a tie rod end. On my Parolin (same as KGB, DC1, and uses RR/GOld components) I went through about 3 of them in one season. Those things were like jelly.

I the idea of the birel easykart setups though. I wish they would get more popular around here, because I like how they REALLY level the playing field. What chassis are you running?

I'm confused. You said ratchet showed up yesterday, and it's a "Big Dawg" for $12.95.

eBay auction has Proto ratchets (but not the "Dawg" model) for $12.95. You then say you bought frome the same seller "about a year ago".

So which ratchet arrived yesterday?:headscrat

I thought you got a 1/2"? This other auction is for 3/8".

1/2" is more money.

Thats just too strange, seeing as how it got resurrected on 1/20/2007. So I wonder what the quality is of the ratchet the Ebay auction is currently showing?

Nice ... no, wait ... very nice quality. One of the smoothest ratcheting mechanism I have every used. I have bought 3 ratchets from him and am amazed how nice these ratchets are for no more money than he charges.
